Hey everyone, I just ordered an AirMaster77. I was waiting to sign up for some other forum before I found this one so I'm hoping I did enough homework.

I'm looking for something to take out sparrows, robins and crows at a 30 yard distance, and I don't want it to be too loud as I need to be able to do it from my window. They're stealing my fish bait and walnuts. I also just like to target shoot.

Anyway, I'm hoping I got the right gun for what I needed. I got it because it had the highest velocity rating I had seen and the least woes and complaints on craftsmanship. I remember having a Daisy 880 that was very nice years ago, but going by the reviews I've seen either half the Internet is a lousy shot or they just don't make them like they use to.

Also, is the scope with it any good? I just bought a Daisy 840 single-pump, and I don't know if it's that I'm a worse shot than I use to be, but I could only hit a penny 16/24 times at 23 feet using the 4x15 scope.

robins are song birds and federaly protected.
House sparrows are pest that were introduced.
crows can be shot in most states but there is a season some.
you should check you local hunting laws before shooting any animal.

Well, I guess that answers some questions. Shocked Had no ideas robins were federally protected.

I'd still like to target shoot with it though, but yeah, good idea on the laws. I'm kind of way out in the country and don't get bothered, so I didn't think about that.

Anyway, i was just mostly hoping to get some idea of the accuracy of this gun. I'll be a little more careful in the future, thanks for the tip.

You may have issues with crows and the Am77- crows aren't that small and a .177 shooting up to 700fps (more likely 650-ish) may not be enough to do the job. I don't know what the laws are in respect to specific birds, but the others listed are small enough that the AM77 should work, assuming you can get proper shot placement.

What exactly is proper shot placement on smaller birds? I took a sparrow with a neck shot that looked clean, but it didn't seem that quick--few seconds of movement.

A sparrow will go down if you nick his pinky toe Laughing Doesn't take much for those little guys.

But seriously, head shots on any small game animal are best. If you watch the better youtube vids, you will see they go for the head shot when they can get one. Some will even wait and let a "possible" kill go, giving up a body shot to get a clean head shot later on.

I thought I might have winged him with the way he took to flight and then fell to the ground and fluttered, but it only lasted about 5 seconds and from what I've seen on YouTube it's about as quick as I could get without a direct headshot.
