Hey guys, I just wanted to know how good the Whisper is. I am thinking of purchasing it as i need an "upgrade" from my Gamo Big Cat 1200.
1) How is the Accuracy?
2) Does the Noise Dampener actually work?
3) So i have some idea, which pellet worked best for you?
Thank You,
Jr. |

| I don't have personal experience with the Whisper, but I suspect if you got it you would not have an upgrade, you'd have...two Gamos. For an upgrade, go German. |

Gamo....
RUN and don't look back..
lately the happyest day I had was the day
my gamo big cat sold... only 12 pellets though it
6 weeks old...it shoots ok...the rest of it was
pure junk...
its one of the newer plastic trigger model big cats...
also have a hunter 440 .22 steel trig model
thats a great gun...
Sorry to say but in my opinion gamo has gone from a ok gun
to one of the worst on the market... |

personally I'd save my cash.I had a Whisper in .22 cal.It was the old version with the steel trigger upgraded with the GRT III trigger. The trigger upgrade greatly improved the gun.Does the suppressor work? Yes it does...."sort of"..Is it 52% quieter,as Gamo claims...absolutely not.
The real question is 52% quieter than what? Here's the scoop on a suppressed springer....yes it is quieter at a distance, but most of the noise you actually here is the action with a springer. So up close there is no real difference.and certainly not enough to back up Gamo's claim.Suppressors on a springer are more of a gimmick,as you can only get worthwhile suppression with a HPA,or a C02 rig.
The old Whisper is a "decent" gun but in my opinion not worth the money.By the time I got my Whisper set up the way I liked it,"new trigger, new scope, filling the stock to dampen that annoying twang....the cost was more than I paid for my Discovery PCP with pump..which by the way has twice the FPE with the correct pellet, and a two dollar power adjuster. It can also be made much quieter than the Whisper with some after market goodies available, and it's a heck of a-lot more accurate to boot.If your going to spend a decent amount on an air gun...there are much better options than a whisper in my opinion. If you still want to stick with a springer...take a look at a Diana 34...I think you'd be much happier.Again this is just my opinion.....
By the way the most accurate pellets in my Whisper were Predator polymag's followed by Gamo Hunter's... |

I usually wouldn't respond to someone asking for info I don't have, but I can't help but toss another 2 cents in. Listen to what everyone else has said. Gamo is crap, customer service might as well not exist, and their marketing strategy goes against what airgunning should be about. Over inflated velocities, an ad killing a pig with a .177 PBA round, and again, sh!t customer service.
If you want anything worth buying, spend the extra cash or go with Crosman since parts and customer service are always at hand. Or an RWS for a lifetime warranty. Of course there are other great brands out there, but Gamo isn't one of them |

As other have said Gamo just doesn't make many good guns anymore...
IMO They are also one of the leaders in "mis-information" all their BS with PBA, and focusing solely on velocity...Yeah OK, PBA shoots a bit faster, but what good is it when you can't hit a barn door with it from inside the barn? |

I've actually read in a few places people getting inch groups at 50 yards or similar results with PBA. My Quest actually printed a 1/2" group at 30 yards with them the only time I tested them, but they are too light for any type of hunting. No stopping power.
Keep in mind reports and results like that are few and far between |

I have yet to read one
Yeah Im sure there are freak cases of them actually working good, but compared to JSB's or H&N's...there is no comparison. They even tried to copy Predator's
I have found basically all Gamo pellets to be inaccurate now that I think about it |

The thing is that, while Gamo makes affordable stuff, you'll always see the molds, the plastic parts everywhere that break off after a year or so...
You're better off with a Chinese Diana clone in my opinion. Or of course the real thing. |

| Yeah, what Broom said. I've never shot an RWS but there's no shortage of rave reviews on them, and if you want a true upgrade a 34 is an inexpensive start. |
