I do some bird shooting in barns at night in the winter and am looking for an accurate bb gun that isn't too fast or I can turn down. I don't know what specific velocity exactly but I don't want to shoot through the metal on the barn roof. I am looking for advice for anything really, doesn't matter what kind of air gun. I don't want to spend $500 but i'll spend some money on this hobby for something accurate. I currently have a Crossman 2100 that does decent, or maybe I just need to practice more, or put a scope on it?
This used to be a favorite hobby of mine when I was younger, but have gotten back into now that i'm a bit older. It's still fun, especially when I can take neighbor's kids or my friends kids out and show them how fun it is.
Thanks,
Al |

Good morning Al,
Your not going to get the accuracy your looking for in a BB gun... You need a pellet gun with a riffled barrel. BB's are pretty much guaranteed to richochet...
Put a low powered Mil-dot reticle scope on your 2100 and you should be fine in any temperature range... Great gun for indoor shooting and you can vary the power by how many times you pump it.
The reason I say Mil-dot is... you can use the dots as indicators for pellet drop for various power ranges and over all distance. You will have to practice and make mental notes.
Co2 air guns are pretty much worthless under 55*. |

Thanks for the reply Joe!
Funny you should mention "richochet"!!! I do try sometimes, to richochet a bb off the metal to get a bird if it doesn't offer me a good shot or is mostly hidden behind a rafter. LOL
Most shots are within 10 yards I would guess, maybe the occasional 15 yard shot, but all fairly close range. When I was a kid I had a Daisy 880 I believe and I was darn good with that gun using iron sites!!! I spent so much time with that gun I knew exactly where the bb was going at almost any distance reasonable for a bb. Fun times!!
Is there anything I can coat the barrel with to get better accuracy? Bore paste, moly, anything at all other then a good scrubbing? Or maybe i'd have better accuracy with pellets, I wouldn't be able to reload as fast, since my 2100 does have a rifled barrel.

Nope... air guns like to be shot dirty... unlike powder burners...
You could put a barrel stabilizer in the shroud to improve accuracy...
The 2100 has the same issue as the 1077... soda straw barrel that likes to flop around in the front sight bushing... It does cause random flyers... |
