Hi, I was wondering if anyone is expierenced in doing this? I'd be willing to ship it out, pay to have it done. I was looking for a orange and black camo.

Get some cans of spray paint and some painters tape, cut shapes and go at it Mr. Green

I have no idea where to start, this would be my first project. What exactly should I tape off?

Start with a base color, then after it's dry cover it in strips of painters tape-- peel tape up and cut the shaped stripes of painters tape,and cover the entire gun Now peel SOME of the tape off and spray with next color,and so on
If not someone else on here will respond with something better

I've never done camo. you want to prime it with solvent based XIM
in a spray can. it's sticks to plastic like glue.

then the final coat with oil based polyurethane.

Don't know how to answer that, this works great for painting flames on fenders, same concept
On a gun I would think the poly would create a lot of shiny glare--- I use a guilly to cam my guns and just was giving a suggestion

google it. first shoot 3 good coats of XIM and let it sit for a day
or 2 so the tape doesn't pull it off. I'm getting ideas on doing this
to my 1077.

once the primer is cured you can always redo the color if
you don't like it.

XIM WILL NOT!!! COME OFF OF PLASTIC!!

JamesPromIII - I've never done a camo gun, but I have done some wooden toys in camo. I usually just spray random areas with the second color, letting the overspray fade into the background color. Examples of camo stocks that I've seen use the same technique, except they lay leaves, twigs, fabric, etc. over the background color to mask it while laying down the second or third color.

Your pattern has sharp lines that run continuously from one part to the next, like a jigsaw puzzle. If you can stand more random lines (while keeping the jigsaw puzzle piece shapes), try this: Lay the painter's tape on a piece of parchment paper from the grocery store, and cut out your abstract shapes with a scissors. The parchment paper will stick just enough so you can cut the shapes without having the tape flop around and sticking to itself. Then peel the parchment paper off and stick the shape to the stock to mask the color underneath. I have done this for painting small details, and it might work on the larger area of a gun.

In any event, get a scrap of wood and experiment until you get the effect you want.
