Decided to try the rifle, as the red dots are smaller than
a ten ring on the pistol target, but not for the rifle.
It is amazing how fast your proficiency drops off....
Couldn't hit anything....
Walther 300XT Match Diablos
10m standing peep sights
13.37
13 bulls 7 grays = 165
165/200

Here are my results 105/200
Air Venturi Bronco Rifle
.177 RWS Diabolo
Scope
Technically I should be DQed. It's been raining (10 inches at my house in 72 hours so far, still coming down) so I have been unable to get outside to shoot. I shot kitty corner in the garage at 9m.
It never rains in Southern California, but when it rains, man it pours.

Nice effort Joe but you missed the deadline and were short on range.
Well done everyone else, nice shooting as usual.
Merry Christmas Al

| My shooting stunk. Can't seem to hold still. Shot well with the rest but only hit a bull by accident freehand. |

Don't let that stop you. Keep on trying.
One thing about competition is that it shows you what can be done.
And then, once your mind has cleared that hurdle, your confidence follows.
Because, seeing all the "fine" physical specimens that take part in target shooting, it obviously is a mental sport.
Look up Lenny Bassman and his books "With Winning in Mind"
Some days I shoot and the bull looks enormous. Can't miss. In the zone.
Other days, can't even hit paper. A lot of that is mental. |

Didn't say anything about quitting, I'm just starting. Just impatient. I've learned a few things the last few weeks. Now I plan to hold the rifle on target every day for a few min, do a little light shoulder work with dumb bells and see how things settle down.
The bicept thing has gotten better since I moved my left arm in close to under the trigger a bit but my left deltoid still feels stress/fatigue. It doesn't relax well yet.
My trigger control needs work. I lose some concentration just as I "decide" to make the shot and get a little emotional surg then as well.
I have done some mental rehearsing and imagining as well. I'm counting on the body feel/memory thing to kick in sometime. Just takes time. Who know how long but it's cheap shooting.
Did I say my bench shots have done quite well. I've tuned my scope somemore and I think I'm down to 1/4 to 1/3 inch accuracy. It's hard to tell since the rifle and I are still breaking in.
As I do more bench shooting I'll have a better idea of my clusters. Just got the bench a week ago and shot with it only once.
I enjoy the challange.
Thanks for the encouragment. |

Rickie try aiming slightly above the target and slowly lower the sights until you come on to the target, at this point your muscles will hold for a few seconds better than aiming at the target straight away, try to get a shot away before the shakes start again.
One other thing using the artillery hold or any other, the main thing with a Springer is hold it lightly, in fact if you could pull the trigger with out holding the gun at all it would be perfect, but this is not possible. When shooting off a bench make sure the rest can move, try an old cushion or a role of cloth, if you are right handed then use your left hand to support the butt, it stops it from sliding down your shoulder and means that you can hold the rifle very lightly, one other thing support the gun on the stock not the barrel.
Give it a try it may work for you
