after reading that my gamo pellet trap may not be strong enough for my 97k i decided to make my own. in trying to keep sound to a minimum i heard that 2 inches of duct seal putty works well. getting tired of walking back and forth i thought id make 4 traps so i can shoot more and walk less. has any one had experience with the duct seal product im talking about? wondering about other experiences and how thick it should be applied to the rear wall of the trap. thanks for the imput. walt. |

I have 2 inches of duct seal on the back of my pellet trap and have yet to see any pellets penetrate much more than 1 inch. The trap itself is simply a box of 1/2inch plywood with a handle on top that I built. It is quite convenient and completely silent when a pellet hits the duct seal. Of course, pellets are beginning to build up in the putty since I do not dig them out, simply pushing the putty around to cover areas where pellets have hit when it becomes obvious that one area is getting heavily pitted so there may begin to be a bit of an issue of sound when pellets hit pellets, but there haven't been any problems of any sort so far. |

thanks for the imput. just got back from lowes and cleaned them out of duct seal. looking forward to the lower noise signature as my new rifle will most likey be louder than my current pistol. i dont plan on digging them out either so ill probably just do as you do. im hoping with 4 traps that they will stay quiet for a very long time. thanks again, walt. |

Any idea how many pounds of duct seal you used? Did you leave it in it's original shape or have to reshape it? |

| im going to be using just over 4 one pound blocks per target. that will give my particular set up just over 2 inches thickness across the back wall. |

I believe the original packages were one pound each and I have a total of 7 packages in the trap. I laid down 4 of the strips, just as they came from the package, directly on the wood back of the trap (they stick really well!), forming a rectangle centered on the trap opening. Three additional strips were then laid down perpendicular to the initial strips, again centered. That means there is a 1 inch border around the central 2 inch layer. |
