The first snow of the winter and look what it's done to our beach. "Anyone for a Deckchair?"

Maybe we'll also have some snow on this side of the brook.
I already saw some wet snow earlier this week during my driving lessons, but none of it would stick around.
Did I mention that my driving instructor likes rall driving and that last week we went cruising the touristic route? |

We've had snow on the ground for about three weeks. It came and then never went away:
Ullr has apparently been busy all over the world:
In chapter 31 of the first part of Snorri Sturluson's 13th century Prose Edda (the Gylfaginning) Ullr is described as the "snow runner." Son of Sif and stepson of Thor. In the second part (the Skáldskaparmál) he's called the snow god.
Here in Minnesota we worship the snow god Toro, whose throne is on Mt. Minneapolus:
While Ullr casts his snow blessings on the virtuous, Toro flings snow on the neighbors, virtuous or not.
Many Minnesota garages have shrines to Toro and his companion the arctic cat (whose lair is in Thief River Falls). The cat's name in old Norse translates as "swift running between ale houses." Here we see a Scandinavian type paying homage to the cat:

Ahh I've been waiting on two things. warmer day's (between snow day's), & my order of four boxes of premiers(pyramyair, hello). Yesterday we got close to 40 degee's. This forced me to burn threw my last tin of pellets that don't like my gun --- nice weather again today, and no shooting for me
Oh well might hit the ski hill |

I was probably cold too.
Maybe they are gonna have the "eleven cities" ice marathon this year. Last one was in '97, what a winter that was. Longest ice skating marathon on natural ice in the world, I think, over almost 200 kilometers.
Only the US or Canada (or BOTH) "could" top that but I don't know if they should. Landmass wise you colonials could easily do it but that's kinda cheating. |
