Hi all, I have an Air Venturi Bronco. In the instructions it states to use a siliconized chamber oil every 100 shots. Is the chamber oil made by RWS appropriate for this use?
Also, there is no mention of any lubrication to the spring assembly. should that be done as well, and if so how often?
Any other tips for maintenance would be appreciated. Thank you. |

| The only way to lubricate the spring (really the spring doesn't get lubed, the guides get lubed) it to disassemble the rifle. Yes, the silicon oil in the RWS kit is good for the chamber, Crosman also has some in a small tube. Every 100 shots to lube the chamber/piston seal seems awfully excessive, however- on most rifles it should be every few hundred shots. |

| Would it be ok to use 100% silicone shock oil? It states 100% Pure GE Silicone Oil. Used for RC cars. |

No- silicone oils are intended for use on plastics/neoprene and such- not metal and it collects moisture and generally doesn't work that well in metal-to-metal applications. Sure- all sorts of people flog it for different purposes- but they may also talk about re-lubing the parts with it after every use.
Stick to using the silicone oil on the piston seal and in HPA guns, use something designed for metal-metal contact elsewhere in a springer. |

All I'm using the silcone oil for is the piston seal. I have the heavy tar, clear tar and molly paste from John Macarri for the tune up.
I just need to know if it is ok to use this specific oil for the piston seal.

As long as it is 100% silicone and has no petroleum distillates in it.
You may want to consider leaving the "tars" out of your rifle- unless you live in the South where it is always above 60*F- they are inconsistent due to the thick viscosity which is greatly affected by temperature change, and generally only gum things up- the original "idea" behind them was to eliminate any spring "twang"- by, effectively gumming things up. Was not a great idea 20 years ago, and has been largely dismissed by people doing tunes these days.
But hey- what do we know- most of us aren't making thousands a year flogging useless product, right? |
