Hello,

Brand new here. I picked up a Stoeger X10 air rifle. I love it. I picked it up to take care of some skunk my old 760 pumpmaster couldn't tame. I live in the burbs, but own 2 acres. So my Henry .22 isn't much of a option. I've nailed 2 skunks with the pumpmaster but they just ran away. I still think it's louder then my Stoeger.

So I picked up the air rifle a couple of weeks ago. I group really tight at 15 yards shooting the PBA Raptors. I had to make some adjustments to get it there. Well I shot a nice size ground mole yesterday that had reeked havoc for a couple of weeks. I took a shot through the dirt where he went in. That was it for the Stoeger.

Today, I picked up a pumpkin from work-roughly 5 pounds. So I put it up at my 15 yard mark. I pumped up the pumpmaster with a lead flat front pellet. Didn't go threw. So I put it out at 37 yards (ranger finder). I traced a coaster with a sharpie. I made a two click windage adjustment. It was still a 1 inch high at the setting of zero. It goes right threw the pumpkin and hits the straw bale behind it. I put a 1/2" particle board behind it. I was initially worried at it going through the straw bale so I put it behind it. They put the dent in it for sure.

I've put around 100 pellets through it. Now the manual says maintenance after 500 shots or long term maintenance. I live in Michigan so I really am curious about what the Pro's think.

NOW the questions:

I did not purchase the scope with the mounts, I heard it was junk from doing the research online-not hear. BUT I am in the market for a durable-quality scope and mounts. Hard part is, I don't know what to look for, where is a reputable place on the web to purchase or what I need my application. Any help?

I would mounts I could use my irons on if I can. I know price goes a long ways, I would like to stay under 50 for both unless it's a good deal.

Lose the PBA ammo. Get some Crosman, RWS, JSB, or Beeman pellets. Dome or round nose pellets usually produce the best results.

I would go for a scope from Leapers or CenterPoint for your budget. Leapers mounts. A 3-9x40 should be sufficient for your uses, an adjustable objective lens is a must for any airgun. Otherwise you will have parallax issues causing a major lack of accuracy.

Now that Pyramyd Air is shunned, and my last order had some horrible packing... I don't know where to send you to buy this stuff. Haven't had to buy anything lately due to my stocking up on the last purchase.

My Diana 34 eats .177 RWS super domes. My .22 SuperStreak eats Crosman Premier Hollowpoints. Other winners are .177 (milk carton) Crosman pointed for plinking, .177 Beeman HN match, and .22 RWS pointed/hollowpoints.

Lucky for me I have not had to go through that many different pellets to find some winners. The superdomes and CPH are usually used, but I also keep a stash of the .22 RWS pointed and .177 crosman pointed. Just in case.

Store your extra pellets in an ammo can to keep them safe.

I don't have any kids and I live by myself. I own my own house at 24. So I know where I keep everything. I actually converted a spice rack in the breeze way to store my air rifles and the .22.

Now I know I am going to get the boo and hiss, but I want a pellet that is going to put the hurt on critters in the yard at 2 in the morning making my yard look like Beruit. I.E. a coon or skunk. WITHOUT the neighbors calling the cops when I shoot i.e. .22.

Is twist a issue with air rifles? I actually had those RWS's in my hand at the store. I went with the bling and started shooting.

I wish there was a good place to get this stuff.

I assume the "10" is .177????
or am i wrong?

not enough for coon or skunk!
plus, skunks will spray even when shot with .223 (as i've read).
from what i know there is a "50 yard rule" with stinkers.

no, twist doesn't matter.

.177 guns don't kill beyond bunnies.

centre point & Leapers scope come from the same factory...
The Leapers are a bit higher up the quilty chain..

Sniper----yes..all US Stoeger 's are in .177..In other countries however, you can get a .22...go figure??

gltucker--even though Fritz obviously is NOT a PA fan, I still contend that they are A-OK....and they are a GREAT place to "GET THIS STUFF" as you put it...As far as the boo and hiss...you won't get it from me..if you'd rather run them off than kill them, then I salute you...

Just some thoughts that come to mind...

. You will never chase them off. You either kill them, or they stay. They were either there before you or came in after you. But either way, they are there to stay unless they leave with feet in the air.

. You will need to check with your local laws to see if shooting a gun is legal and if hunting in your backyard is legal.

. With that said, depending on your model of .22 rimfire, if you can shoot .22shorts, go with those. They may be quieter than your air rifles and more effective.

. From what I've read, skunks and raccoons are tough to kill. You want to use humane head-shots and those two animals have tough skulls. A .177 pellet just won't have the oomph you want and need to take these guys.

. If you scope your springer, make sure it's a double-recoil scope. Springers have a backward recoil and then a forward recoil. Most scopes are only single recoil and your springer will destroy them. So, don't just run out to Walmart and buy a neat looking scope. And there are special mounts as well that have a locking bold that screws downward into the receiver of the gun to keep it from sliding around.

An animal will not stay around an area that they get hurt in as they have good survival instincts. Of course in a situation where you have many of some animal like rats then the rat that was hurt may leave but you won't know it due to another one taking its place.

the first shots from our Stoeger X10 were quite loud, even though it was cleaned before shooting, but after about 10 shots it got a lot quieter.

I am out to blast them and I do not want the LEO coming to my door for making a loud bang. I already am aware that the coke method is a Federal offense. I am not doing it for fun, it's literally property damage. I never had problems until like a month ago. I actually enjoy the wildlife--especially the deer. I would never shoot a deer in the back or on the property. I have 2 acres. Just not my thing to kill deer in the yard or anything.

I've shot one skunk at 15 yards already. I took a range finder and that's what it came back at. It never sprayed, but yelped. I haven't seen it since and didn't shoot it with the Stoeger. I read that they spray up to 15 feet. It just looked at me kept doing it's thing. It didn't seem scared or growl, hiss or looked distress. It also didn't spray. I shot another one the night before and that one let me get 20 yards to it. That one was alot bigger and never sprayed either it just booked it. Wasn't concerned either.

Is the lead pellets worth anything out of these?

well, all that said.... CCI CB caps. 29 grains around 740 fps.
now you're in the ball park of the higher powered pcp's.
you're henry will work fine.
they are VERY quiet.
