A Co2 Release Valve for Filler Cap??

Does anyone make a Co2 release valve to replace the filler cap on a 2240?
I don't shoot all that often & rather than leave the gun charged up for long periods of time [maybe weeks at a time], I would like to dump the Co2.
Rather than having to blank fire to release the pressure, seems like there ought to be a better method...

Maybe you can get a degasser/power adjuster?

There is no Co2 pressure in the 2240 tube- the caplet rests directly against the valve, so any pressure release would have to be from the valve. But- that's a limited amount of space and would likely need some sort of vent out the side of the tube to access.

Hmmm? That's strange. I cannot remove the cap, so there has to pressure against it. It normally screws on & off with ease, but with a fairly new cartridge in there, it won't budge. The gun is new - from 'Crosman Custom' & it shoots ok, so where do we go from here??

WIth pressure against the cap it can be VERY difficult to turn the cap... usually 10-15 quick "dry fire" shots reduce pressure enough to loosen the cap..If that's too much for you, you might try using a pair of channel locks-with the jaws covered with cloth or rubber!!! to loosen cap just enough to bleed off the cartridge pressure...hope this helps.

The Co2 caplet and the valve are pressurized- NOT the tube. The pressure against the cap is present because the cartridge is open and feeding the valve and you are trying to turn against this pressure- not pressure in the tube itself. For a vent in the cap, it would be necessary for the cap to also puncture the cartridge- which would be extremely difficult.

OK, I got it now. I had forgotten about the stem on the cap that shoves against the cartridge. Thanks much for the replies & info.
Too bad they don't have some sort of gauge on them, so one would know when the co2 becomes useless. I have one on my 1077. Took a lot of work & expense, tho.....

It may be possible to fit a de-compressor similar to the one fitted to some QB78s, which is just a hole in the tube behind the hammer piston, and a key to force it against the valve pin?

I would really need to strip down my 2240 to check, but I'm short of time at the moment.

I'll dig out some photos of the QB setup they may give someone an idea of what I'm on about. If it worked it would be a handy tool.

That could be done- have the rod push the hammer against the valvestem. I think the rod would need to be fairly strong to avoid people bending it, and using it would require being careful not to get it caught in the hammer spring and damaging it.

This is the setup on a QB78 and it works very well, also the pressure required to operate it is very little.

A collar could be fixed around the key to stop it going into the chamber to far, and interfering with the spring. I think this could be a nice little project for the winter, so more sooner than later I'll be ripping my 2240 down and looking at the possibilities.

You can fit a Disco rear plug and use a Disco de-gassing tool.... It threads in through the rear plug and pushes the hammer against the valve stem.... Don't forget to pull the trigger first, or you will damage the sear....

I'm kinda in the dark here. Where do you obtain this Disco setup? And cost?
Regarding my earlier comments on this thread about my new 2240KT.. I have to fire the trigger 3 or 4 times in order to puncture a Crosman co2 cartridge. I called Crosman, but they were not much help other than I would probably have to return the gun for observation. Any suggestions on this?

Contact a Crosman parts supplier or Crosman themselves and purchase the rear tube cap / hammer spring seat for a Benjamin Sheridan Discovery.... plus the de-gassing tool that goes with it.... Replace your rear cap with the one from the Disco.... I have no idea what the cost, but it won't be that much.... I am assuming that the stock rear cap on the 2240 KT is the same as the stock 2240.... If it has a built-in velocity adjuster (RVA) you won't be able to replace it with the Disco rear cap (or you will lose the RVA)....

To let the CO2 out of your gun, you screw the degassing tool into the Disco rear cap until it contacts the back of the hammer.... then pull the trigger, hold it down, and continue to screw the degassing tool in (there should be little resistance) until the CO2 vents out the barrel....

It sounds like the CO2 cartridges you have are some of the ones that Crosman sold that had a hard end on them.... They should puncture with just one shot (unless you have reduced the hammer spring tension).... The harder ones take several shots and some won't pierce at all.... It's a quality control problem that Crosman won't recognize.... Rolling Eyes

just get a dam big screw driver & undo the cap till the co2 leaks into the tube....the tube is not sealed..but you mite want to drill a releif hole in the bottom near the valve powerlet junction...
