| I recently acquired a new custom 2240 from Crosman. The instructions pointed out to use only Copper Head cylinders, as others could damage the gun. Well, that sort of blew me off course, as I had never heard of the copper heads before & nobody in my territory sells them. So I took a chance & tried some Daisy Powerline that I had & been using in my 1077. They worked just fine. But I was a bit skeptical as to whether or not, I should be doing this .A Warranty issue. I then went to Walmart & purchased some genuine Crosman cartriges [standard powerlets] The first one I tried, I could not punch the cylinder, so rather than really forcing it, I quit & ordered some Copperheads off the internet. I had been using both Crosman & Daisy in my 1077 for over 2 years with no problem. My question is: what is so different about the 2240, that it requires a special cartridge? |

You got some Crosman cylinders that have a thick top.... it has been reported on other forums.... I've used several brands of cartridges with no problems.... and I've never heard of Copper Head either....
The 2240 is no different than any other CO2 gun.... any cartridge (except those with paper labels) should work fine.... Did you try firing the gun several times to pierce the cartridge?....

Thanks for the reply Bob; yes, I fired about 3 times to no avail. What I had noticed mostly, is that the piercing cap rod had not screwed down all the way, as in most cases. It would have probably taken a pair of water pump pliers to do the job. Anyway, I found out that Crosman makes both standard & copperhead cartridges. They cost a little bit more, but supposed to be the "Cats Meow" We'll see, when they arrive..........

The cap on the end doesn't do the piercing in a 2240.... it only holds the CO2 cartridge against the end of the valve.... The valve is peirced by a movable pin in the valve when you fire the gun the first time....
I still figure it's a hard end on the cartridge....

Ahhh! Live & learn. I learned something today. I had always thought that the cap rod actually shoved the cartridge against the pin, thus puncturing it.
Yes, the cartridge had what appeared to be a tiny pinhole, yet was not punctured.

A few more shots might do it.... As I said, Crosman produced some cartridges where the end was either too thick or too hard and didn't puncture properly....

Thanks Bob: One last question; Does the 1077 piercing, work the same way ?
Of course, I no longer use cartridges in my 1077, due to the recent mods.

PLEASE don't use water pump pliers to tighten that cap down... it should only be tightened by hand..nothing tighter. |

FYI; I was only making a point as to what it might have taken, in order to screw the cap to its normal position. I would NEVER do such a thing
