I have the Slavia 631, which is essentially the same gun with a larger stock. They are well built, have a good trigger, and are accurate. They never really caught on over here, probably because they are relative low-powered (around 600 FPS). It's a good gun.

Hi Slavia
That explains your username !
Thank you very much for info, gun condition is good some rust spotting on barrel,. but that is all. Will be trying it out in next few days.
BSA Meteor in almost mint condition.
Reason for cheap price, friend is another surgeon and going to New Zealand shortly, so cannot take guns - alcohol led us to deal !! lol

Hey there,

Slavias shoot as wel as guns over a $100 more expensive. I have owned both the 630 and the 631, allthough I actually bought the second one for a friend and ran shot it to see if it performed well. The 631 I owned was a pretty cheap deal; beat up, showing it's age and a bent barrel but it came with a dioptre and shot really great, in spite of all the flaws it came with.

Also, which model BSA Meteor?

Used guns tend to have a bit more soul. Wink

Welcome aboard, and I hope have a good time here!

Not to offend whoever wrote that cherrytwist tune...but that sounds like one defective gun the fellow had.
3" groups at 10m before tune??
Before tune I had no trouble getting dime sized groups at 10m with my 630. After tune (admittely I scoped it as well) my 630 has no problem with under 1" groups at 30m.

10 meters should be raffled holes. Both my tuned 630 and untuned 631 could do that.

I'll agree that 3" sounds pretty big compared to my experience with the 631, but let's be charitable. He mentions that he had only been shooting the 631 for two weeks, and was looking to refine his technique. Maybe he came from a different shooting tradition and springers were new to him. Or possibly he bought a ton of those Chinese "tool sale" pellets. Or maybe his wife was "accidentally" bumping him when he shot so her 631 would score higher.

Slavia...to me it would seem odd that the fellow can do a fairly extensive teardown and tune of the gun...yet not be familiar with shooting a springer.

Maybe he followed a tune guide too.

To tear down and tune a gun only requires mechanical aptitude and some knowledge of the gun but has nothing to due with shooting.

My wife and I do not share an interest in shooting, but drawing from cross-country skiing with her, yes - I believe it's possible. She was agile enough to perform a hockey-style hip check once, and has confused a ski pole with a fencing foil.

I agree that mechanical and marksmanship skills are not necessarily related, but he did get tighter groups after the tune.
