Well this is what I use for FT shooting some here may remember seeing it on other forums.
Custom made stock by myself the rifle itself is a thats right a GAMO CFX but this one shoots much better than out of the box new ones as it has been tuned to the max and altered.
I only use the cheep bipod for the photos and never bench rest to shoot, My style is sitting position as this is how I do most FT. |

Nice FT Air rifle there! Loving the stock! What kind of Velocities is it putting out?
I take it it's a .177 being FT right?

Looks good! Did you get a semi-finished stock made to match the CFX, or did you make it from the "ground up"?
Also, anything specific to the CFX to be tuned to make it shoot more smoothly? I'm asking because some gun platforms have their own specific "quirks" that need to be addressed above and beyond the typical "smooth and lube" generic tune. |

Well I made the stock from the ground up laminated the wood and went from there I did this in four days then another day to spray it.
Tuning the gun well there are many things people do to tune a gun mostly from the inside out removing all the rough factory burs and stuff I never really did that but I did re lube it and replaced it with a CDT spring after mine broke in three places new spring was magic.
Trigger well thats a GRT III also from CDT and that makes a world of difference, Now most of you know that GAMO turn out synthetic stocks like mad men and that is also a bit of a let down as the gun moves to much and vibrated to much hence the wooden stock I made and the problem was almost eliminated to add the final touch I added a weight to the end of the barrel which can be changed in seconds to a heavier or lighter weight this stops the gun from jumping.
Over this year I took second place in the springer class in the Masters Games (Silver Medal) and bronze in the second stage of the national series just last week I took out second overall in the finals of the national series which is my second NZ title of Silver.
Now the competition has slightly up graded a little so next year will be a real challenge thats why I'm putting together a 4 man team of the top springer shooters at the club.
PS I'm not sure of the power out put I get with it yet I haven't tested it with a chrony but she shoots flat out to 45 50 yards before I have to adjust the scope. |

Ah- so a better spring and the stock were the best "tune" pieces! I was curious about how people have solved the "jumpiness" of the CFX- apparently the synthetic stock being replaced is a big first step! Funny, many other guns that have wood vs. synthetic stocks the synthetic stocks are better "tuned" to absorb vibration and such.
You wouldn't happen to have any close-ups of the front weight, would you? That's an interesting idea- replaceable, adjustable weight to act as a flip compensator. |

The weight I used is just half a shear pin if one of the machines at work I do have another that is double the weight that I will be testing to see if it makes it better a little more or it could make it worse will do some testing to find out & I'm not sure of the weight yet.
On the CFX the plastic muzzle break has a built in dove tail on the bottom and thats how it's attached just using an old scope ring and so far it workes very well it makes it a whole more accurate especially on those 50 meter knock down targets with a 40 mm kill zone.

DAMAGE,
That is one sweet looking shooter you have there. And I commend you on your skills in competition . It has to be tough when your under pressure from other shooters.
I do not know how the rules in matches work but what happens when you get a flyer?Do they count it as a shot or is there some sort of allowance for a flyer ? Just wondering how how the rules work. If you know a web site about the rules I can educate myself.
Again Congratulations on your skill. And beautiful work on the gun!!!
Respectfully
BBGun Bob |

Thanks Bob, As for the rules well they vary and are different in every country as for having the odd flier well yup they can happen to everyone so they get counted even if you load and tap the trigger by accident and the rifle goes of that is also counted as a shot it happened to me at the last nationals because I adjusted my trigger and set it as a hair trigger woops my bad but it can be frowned upon by the range officer as a lack of control and a safety issue but it happens.
I will try and find our club rules for FT on the forum and post them up for ya. |
