Don't go power crazy and make sure you get a scope with an adjustable objective (AO).... I use a 3-9 x 40 AO on most of my rifles and the most I would go to is a 4-12 x 40 AO or a 4-16 x 50 AO.... I personally don't like getting the scope too high, and you need high rings on most rifles with the 50mm objective....

For Grouse hunting you want to be able to dial it down to 3-4 power when hunting in poor light.... Leapers, Center Point, Bushnell, or Hawke are all good brands without breaking the bank.... I find most of the illuminated reticles are too bright or cause glare and never use them.... My dedicated Grouse gun actually has a plain jane, fixed power Leapers 4 x 32 AO on it.... plenty out to 30-35 yards and I hardly ever have to shoot that far....

Sight it in so that the kill zone is 1/2" (ie pellet is within 1/4" above or below POI).... With a gun like a Marauder, that means about a 35 yard zero and a dead-on hold from 12-40 yards.... depending on pellets....

Thx for all the assistance. You all have started me on the path of airgun addiction. Actually that started a number of years ago with my IZH-46M that I love, but have never taken the PCP rifle leap. I have a feeling I have just lept over the edge of a very deep and dangerous abyss!

That's a fact! Ever sice I got the 22M-Rod I've been wanting a 25....or maybe even a ....BIG BORE. It's just another toy addiction.

If made in USA floats your boat, stay away from the .25 mrod.

Not gonna argue about quality, just about the Crosman is usa made therefore buy it.

How about supporting other countries economies. Just buy the best gun out there for the best money and don't discriminate. Nobody cares if it was made in the USA or anywhere else as long as it shoots well.

Better goods will come if people buy good products regardless of where they come from.

An imported barrel in an otherwise US made gun still supports the US jobs making the rest of the gun. 5.5mm isn't real common in America yet so I wouldn't be surprised if none of the US barrel makers had a button to make them. It's to be expected that they would have to import the barrels.

Heck, look at Harley Davidson. Nothing says "proudly American made" more than Harley, but they have tons of imported parts on their bikes.

This thread is really starting to suffer from topic drift. Back to the OP's purpose: The Marauder is still my vote. There are better PCP rifles but it's hard to beat dollars for doughnuts in whichever cal you choose. I like .22. It's more effective than .177 in my opinion and I find pellets in stores I physicaly go to. The .25 excites me and I want one, but pellets are almost strictly a mail or internet order item.

Not to pop your bubble but .22 = 5.5 mm and it's widely used for hunting.

It has also proved to be great for plinking. Allthough I don't any .22's AG's at the moment I'm sure to get me one some time in the future again. It just kicks more a$$ then .177.

Of course going up is even better. The .25 Marauder is good thing.

.22 isn't more expensive then .177, in my opinion. Sure, you get less in a tin, but it roughly amounts to the same amount of led and it's a bit more bang for your buck. Over here there are no very big to no price differences in .177 vs .20 or .22.

For hunting, definitely .22 and a repeater. You just want enough energy to hit the target and a follow up shot ready just in case.

Then again, it'll mostly depend on what you're hunting of course.

Right you are. 5.5mm is .22 airgun bore. .25 cal is closer to 6mm. I stand corrected, though the .25 air rifle bore is less common in the US and I still think that it's likely hard to find a US barrel maker offering it. I may be wrong, it happens, but that's my guess.

.25 is 6.35mm. .25 ammo in the u.s. is far too expensive
for anything but hunting. and there's less pellet options
compared to .22.

Say, are 9 mm heads widely available? Or casts for 9 mm bullets/pellets? That would actually be pretty handy. Isn't lead one of the cheapest metals around?

Get a condor, bore the valve up, put a 9 mm barrel on it and go and shoot stuff.
