For any shooting, you want the most accurate pellet in your particular gun.... and you will only find that by trying a bunch of different ones....
Wadcutters (ie flat nosed) are typically used for punching paper because they leave a nice round hole that is easy to score.... There are many brands available.... and in the premium brands you can even get them in different diameters.... ie 4.51 , 4.52, 4.53, and 4.54 mm....

You left out my favourite.... round nosed.... which have the best Ballistics Coefficient which is important for retaining velocity and energy (and fighting the wind) at longer ranges....
Round Nose: (JSB Exact, Beeman Kodiak, Crosman Premiers, etc.) - best BC, good penetration, good energy & velocity retention (especially the heavier ones), generally the most accurate pellets at longer ranges (30+ yards)....
Domed: (RWS Superdome, Gamo Hunter, etc.) - medium BC, reasonable expansion if the lead is soft, make a good all around pellet at medium ranges....
Pointed: (JSB Straton, Crosman Pointed, etc.) - best penetration (little expansion), mediocre BC, some have accuracy problems at long ranges....
Hollow Point: (RWS HP, Beeman Crow Magnum, etc.) - expand well at high velocity (depending on hardness), therefore least penetration, relatively poor BC, best for hunting at close ranges.... I include the Predators (plastic tipped hollow point) in this group although their BC is more like a pointed pellet, so they work better at medium ranges....
Round Nose Hollow Point: (Crosman Premier HP, Benjamin HP, etc.) - relatively good BC, but relatively limited expansion (especially if the lead is harder), they are quite accurate in many guns....
Wadcutter (flat nosed): (RWS Match, H&N (Beeman) Match, JSB Match, Crosman Wadcutter, etc.) - terrible BC, limited penetration but reasonable expansion if the lead is soft, poke a nice round hole in paper, group size may open up over 20 yards, great for target shooting or close range hunting....
Heavy: (EunJin Domes or Points, etc.) - designed for magnum airguns such as high powered PCPs, good BC at higher velocities (not so good at under 800 fps), hit hard and penetrate well because of the weight, great for hunting larger animals or extreme range providing your gun will shoot them accurately....
Light (non lead): (Gamo Raptors, etc.) - designed to deliver maximum velocity (for advertising purposes) at the expense of accuracy and BC, few guns can shoot them accurately, and they perform dismally at longer ranges....
HTHs....

Welcome to the forum!
Bob is right on all counts. Your choice is made simpler by the power level of the gun (pretty low), so the long range and crosswind considerations are eliminated. Try as many kinds of pellets as you can and pick the best.
The 853 version of your gun is pretty standard for 10m competition with the Boy Scouts, Sea Cadets, 4H, etc. The 953 is perfect for your intended purpose. Use the search function on this forum or poke around a bit and you'll find ideas for backstops and fun targets. There is also a competition on this forum that might interest you. |

I shoot .177 pellets at 10 meters and I have not found the perfect pellet yet.
Usually I shoot H&N finale Match and I have not found my game with those.
I seem to have the occasional misfire...I don't know if it is my gun or what.
I am going to try a Gamo Match (7.57 gr) and a Beeman Wadcutter coated pellet (China) next.
I will post about how it goes.

Yeah, definitely try the competition. It's for fun only and it's better with more people participating. I just like looking at the posted targets to see how various guns shoot. I know, there are a lot of variables that might give a mediocre target, but a good one usually doesn't happen by accident.
