Advice on Gamo Whisper

Hello all, first post. I'm fairly new to airgunning but love it so far. I bought a new Gamo Whisper and loved it right away. Actually a step back, I bought a Hunter and it was so loud I had to return it. After some research I ended up with a Gamo Whisper with the hydrolic replacement for the spring from Pyramid Air. I also replaced the Trigger and exchanged the stock scope with a nicer one I had lying around.

I LOVE this gun. I use it to clean up pests (ie air rats) and it works wonders. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to increase power or accuracy. Its very accurate now but there are some long distance ones Id love to be able to hit if it had just a bit more power...

I know there are better guns out there but the combination of the time/money I already have invested in it, and how quiet the gun is I am keeping the gamo.

If there is nothing else to do I will keep it as is and enjoy it. Wondering if tuning a gas piston gun helps, deburring parts? aftermarket barrels etc. Any advice would be great

Thanks in advance

to all of my knowledge there is not much you can do with a springer as there is with co2 and hpa. the only thing i could think of would be to change out the spring to a stronger one or in your case a gas spring

Doesn't he already have a Gas spring?

Dsapper, you done bought yourself a goodun already! You could put a camo print of some kind on it but past that I'd leave it the way it is. Wink

Yeah not much for camo lol, only really looking for something that increases performance. Is there a stronger gas spring, not sure which one comes standard when you buy it preinstalled from pyramid air

I don't particularly recall there is a more powerfull one, onless the nitro piston can also be used and is more powerful, but I'm not sure if it actually is.

Welcome to the forum!

The gas piston and replacement trigger have taken care of most of the mods that can be done to a springer. Sometimes polishing the muzzle crown helps, but that depends on the individual gun. Besides, it's probably going to be very difficult getting at the crown with a permanent silencer. De-burring is certainly an option, but the payback for your work won't be as great as with a steel coil spring. So that leaves only stock mods to enhance appearance and ergonomics.

I would suggest that your efforts at this point would be better spent simply getting to know the gun and letting it "break-in."

Try all the different kinds of pellets that are available to you. Some guns have a strong preference, and the pellet that works best at close range may be different than the one best suited for longer ranges.

Once you have your pellet choice nailed down, work with the gun/scope at different ranges until you are familiar with the pellet's trajectory and behaviour in the wind.

A gas piston or a steel spring will both produce bi-directional recoil and movement that takes some getting used to. You won't have the "twang," twisting, or vibration problems associated with a steel coil, but you still have significant metal lurching around inside the gun. What has been described as "the artillery hold" is holding the gun with the lightest possible grip while still maintaining control. For best consistency let it rock in your arms.
