I haven't decided how many shots I would want, and don't know how much power i want/need   Posted: Mon Jun 14, 2010 9:40 pm rsterne Moderator Joined: 15 Jan 2008 Posts: 2998 Location: Coalmont, BC I don't know how much FPE Roald is getting from his .177 cal 850s when he maxes them out.... but if you ask on the forum you should get a pretty quick answer.... At 20 FPE or higher, I would only use pellets over 10 gr.... and if you want a good BC that pretty much limits you to 10.6 gr. CPHs, 10.3 gr. JSBHs, or 10.2 gr. Kodiaks.... With any of those at 20 FPE, you will be over 900 fps.... and if you look at how quickly the BC drops off when you push the velocity more than Mach 0.8 (~900 fps) you will probably decide, as I did, that there is not a lot of sense in trying for over 20 FPE in .177 cal.... I will probably go for shot count, and pick up a .22 850, Rainstorm, or Mrod in .22 and go for 30+. Maybe the .25 power ceiling will be pushed up by the time I get back to the states. I found that the gun prefers 15.9 gr. JSB Exacts over the 18.1 gr. Heavies.... The MV is 950 fps (32 FPE).... Here is an 8 shot group shot from the bench at 35 yards: The C-T-C distance is 0.5".... just cover it with a dime.... For what it's worth, I am impressed...I'd venture to guess that at another 15 yards out , you could still keep 'em tight enough to cover with a dime.... excellent!!
