Heya
I've found my PX4 Storm to be very effective at putting down the rats. Perhaps you might want to have a look at it for your use.

My wife has one also and has no problems with accuracy, but I did not mention it because being a .177 cal I am not sure it has the power needed. but it is accurate. Another quite accurate pistol is the Crosman 3576 revolver it is .177 cal, it seems to me to be quite powerful and accurate. |

| custom 22xx with lothar walther barrel is amazingly accurate at 10m pistol comps lol even though you want a repeater my vote is still from the 2240 it wont have the laser and wont be a repeater but you can get really good really fast, be able to one shot a mouse no problem, and the gun will last a long time |

Very interesting ! I was actually looking at one of those today at Big 5, but only the base gun without all the addons. I liked it and was considering it but 2 things bothered me....velocity and no laser mount. Now i see that the one you linked has a barrel extension and an extra 90 FPS as a result, plus a flashlight/laser with a apparently proprietary mount. I would have no use for the scope tho. I wonder if you can get any of those extras seperately. I have a couple questions....they show that the extra barrel is just a small diameter tube and that big huge cylinder with the cone shaped end goes over that. What is that for? It can't be a silencer because the barrel is a solid tube right to the end. Second question is more generic than to this particular model....when you have a BB that travels at 480 FPS and a 177 pellet at 410 FPS, is there really much advantage to the pellet since it's the same diameter and traveling at 70 FPS less? I do realize a pettel has the advantage of being softer and deforming on impart and causing more damage than a BB all things being equal. But at 70 FPS less and not being a 22 pellet but instead the same as a BB, just how much advantage will it truly have knocking rats down in thier tracks compared to my BB pistol at 480 FPS? It would be more with the longer barreled one, but to be honest i really don't like the look or price. I'd prefer the basic PT80 with a laser and nothing more. But 410FPS....i dunno. Any thoughts? |

in answer to your first question That is not a real silencer it is just a way to disguise the barrel extension underneath.
For your second question pellets are more accurate then a bb.
also the reason that the pellet is going slower is because it is heavier which will cause a slight bit more knocking power.
i guess it is basically down to choice. Shot placement is key if you are able to hit the rat in the head then the 70 fps difference shouldn't matter.
personally i would pick the pt-80 with the red dot sight because i think it would be more accurate then open sights. |

I'm dead set on the laser. Been using it on my C11 and I can't imagine using anything else for my situation. I tape a small flashlight to the side and with that and the laser i can shoot as accurately from the hip as i can with other sights at my eye. And the area i hunting them in is full of obstacles that make it far easier to aim with the gun at a different level than my eye. Sometimes it's the only way i can get the shot. so it's laser all the way. But sights aside, it sounds like you are suggesting there may not be a lot more killing power between a 177 pellet@410 and a BB@480. So if thats the case i guess i'm back at square one looking at the only .22 co2 pistol out there, at least that i know of. If i can figure out a way to mount the laser i may have to go with the 2240, but i gotta tell you it really doesn't appeal to me being a single shot. as you can tell, i'm pretty nit picky. Not a trait i'm happy about, but i do know that whenever i just ignore my gut i always end up sorry. So i need to be more sure. And lets not forget loudness....anyone know how loud the PT80 would be compared to my C11? The c11 is about as loud as i can go in my situation. |

My PX4 was acquired because it was becoming too easy to get the rats with my 2240 or 2289 so I wanted a bit of a challenge. Most of the difference is in the recoil from the blowback, once you get past that (my solution was a very very tight hold ), the gun is very accurate and very hard hitting, taking down the little buggers easily in a single shot. Mine is equiped with a walther laser under the barrel and once that was dialed in the rats have been falling like ten pins
Worth a look.
cheers

I read that blowback eats a lot more co2. Is this true? Also, does the blowback cock the hammer? I assume not, but i don't understand why they make them like that if theres no functional reason, so i had to ask. |

Yes, it does seem it would be pretty good with a 6" barrel and good FPS. Can i ask you how loud it is, and do longer barrels usually add or reduce volume? I'm wondering how it is compares to my C11's loudness. Might not be an option because of the lack of laser mount and no way to really tape my flashlight on, but i'm keeping an open mind. |

I have this one:
http://www.pyramydair.com/p/beretta-xx-treme.shtml
In fact it was my first (recent) air gun. I find it to be exceptionally accurate at 10 meters. In fact more accurate than the Crosman 3576 (which I also have). Plenty of room on the xx-treme to mount a laser if you want. It comes with the red dot, and you could even attach a flashlight if you wanted. At 10 meters it will blow thru both sides of a soda can using wadcutters. The compensator is essentially useless and only good for looks. I generally just leave it off when I'm shooting. Umarex is a great company to deal with, their customer service is tops. Though I did buy it from Pyramyd. There was a slight problem with the manuals not being included and Umarex fixed me right up. |

Thats just too much $. I want to stay under $100. So i'd probably just pick one of the questionable ones i've been considering before paying that much. I'm not serious about airguns like some here, i just want to eliminate the hoards of rats around here before they get inside, if they haven't already. |

We had a Crosman C11 (got rid of it because it only used BB's) and the difference in sound level is not noticeable to me but if I had to say I would say the noise from the Crosman 3576 revolver is less than the C11. There is a 11mm dovetail on top that could have a laser installed on it. Of course it makes the built in sights useless but with a laser you do not use the sights. Here is a laser and mount that would fit....

I think you said you had your own laser so I suspect you could use the mount from this laser or find a separate mount. Also Daisy makes a laser that connects to the trigger guard that works quite well except the laser dot is too big IMO. |

Ah ha ! Never thought to mount it up top. Not ideal for a few reasons, but at least it's an option. Coincidentally, the laser you linked is the exact one i have. it was on sale at Big 5 for $14 so i decided i couoldn't lose. Once i tried it, thats all she wrote. I can't imagine nite shooting w/o it, even if i had nite vision. That red dot is just too much fun and allows you to shoot from the hip or anywhere regardless of the relationship of your eye and the gun. I now may consider that gun, tho i have to figure if theres a way to tape my flashlight to it. thanks.

| If it is a small flashlight you could attach it to the side of the barrel with some velcro bands. |

It's about as big as the most common size of maglaite, so it's not going to fit probably. But it's a really bright $30 model that i just got and i have to use it. After paying 30 bucks for a FL i'm not buying another ! I'll find a way if i get that gun. Actually, if i have the laser up top the FL may work on the bottom. |
