Hey guys..who here owns, or has owned a bsa Ultra or Ultra multi shot ??
I can't find much info on them , other than the standard "blurb " on AOA website.. just how accurate is it with that short barrel? In .177, say 7.9gr pellet, how many usable shots per fill ? I started to buy an Ultra when I sold my TalonSS, but then I ran across the 1250 Dominator, and everything changed Shocked Shocked But I STILL want an Ultra, but am not gonna throw my money at them until I get some real-world input from previous and/or current owners.... it's either that or go with a Evanix Renegade...I've already found out a great deal about them Mr. Green
So, please share any info on the Ultra with me..TIA, -Rodger

They're pretty good but not very powerfull. Small also means a low amount of shots.

Still cute though.

They're just short BSA lonestar of sportsmans. It's a 12 Fpe gun with not that many shots, expect 30 at that setting. Powerfull versions will have less. What else do you need to know?

Hi Packrat up until recently I had the use of a BSA Ultra single shot, and as the power limit over here is 12 flb all I can say is that it certainly achieves that no problem, but as Broom says the shot count is a bit lower than most PCPs, as for shooting it is a very nice gun especially for hunting in woods. What I didn’t like is the cocking system ( You press the button below the barrel to cock it which I found awkward).

But all in all a very good and well made gun.

Al

Al, it's the door-knob system. Mr. Green

I do understand that it's usefull when you're hunting. You load a pellet in the rifle but don't cock it. Then, when you spot your target, cock and shoot. But I don't like it either.

What if one where to load multiple pellets? Would they group together?

I prefer a bolt to do everything rather than a bolt and "Door Knob", I found that using it for ratting I would re-load with the bolt and forget to cock it, maybe it just my memory needs re-booting. Razz

I guess it's a way of life. To door-knob or not to door-knob! Mr. Green

Thanks AL..that's what I was looking for -first hand knowledge of the gun , hunting with it, etc.etc. Thanks Broom for all the links..but I'd looked at them first to get basic info, but for me, it just makes sense to hear from someone that has seen, held, fired it...they can give an honest, unbiased opinion..The manufacturer, believe it or not, will sometimes exaggerate the featues and benefits of their products CutItOut

edited to correct spelling.

Hey Pack, know where you're coming from and I understand. Concerning BSA, they've been owned by Gamo for quite some time. I'd get a used Ultra if I'd get one, just to make sure it's an older one that's build and assembled in B'ham. Neutral

I've shot the other BSA rifles, one that was way over 12 fpe and it didn't have a lot of shots. I admit I never shot the Ultra itself, but then, it's technically the same rifle as the other ones, just a lot shorter and less shots.

BSA was doing pretty good, but last I've heard they're now assembled in Spain and they're not doing a tremendously good job at it. Parts ARE still made in Birmingham, according to rumors, and they still say "made in Birmingham/England".

As an example, the new Scorpion models have had some problems and stuff like factory scratches, not catching magazines and such. They didn't have that in the past. This, I experienced first hand with a near new Scorpion.

Compared to a cheaper rifle, the Hatsan AT 44-10 (Hammerli Pneuma, Air Venturi Halestorm) was made better, had better blueing and looked a lot better out of the box too. Also, it shot better groups. On top of that, it's a short rifle too. Wink

Other short/small PCP's you might want to look are the Marauder PCP Pistol but with one of those Crosman custom stocks added, or an Air Arms S400 TDR. Wink

I believe it's claimed to be the same as a Hatsin, but I can't remember exactly which model, and made in Turkey.

Packy, I NAMED IT IN MY POST. Razz

The Hatsan AT-44, and the magazine version AT-44-10. Not sure if it's available there with mag.

They HAVE been improving. The first versions had only one barrelband but because people kept messing up the thread on their screw-in-reservoir, they went ahead and added one, so that when you put it in, it'll go in streight.

Hatsan has more tricks like that on their rifle, and they're not being exeptionally innovative, but still innovative enough to make that lil' difference that matters.

Here, not a wood stock, same rifle:

http://www.pyramydair.com/p/hammerli-pneuma-pcp-air-rifle.shtml

Also, I'd like to add, part availability on these doesn't seem to good over there. Over here you can buy seperate reservoirs for, oh, a 100 bucks. This can be really useful in some situations, I imagine. I don't know many other brands or company that offers their tubes just like that. Except for the rifles with buddy bottles, that is.

I had a BSA Ultra Multishot .177 bull barrel it was very accurate and quiet carbine with good power.
The major draw back is the sequential cocking system which I agree is extremely ackward and distracting.

I recently replaced my BSA Ultra MS with a BSA Scorpion T10 and have no complaints with the bolt action cocking.
