well, i have started making this gun
it will have a smooth bore approximately 6" long
i am not sure about the pressure yet, but i don't think it will be over 500 psi
what is a general pressure range for guns of this cal?
any tips or tricks to making a revolver?
i am not sure how to get the cylinder to turn...
also what is the most stream-line valve that i could make?
(was going to build a schrader or poppet style of valve) |

What if you got a scrap large frame 'burner revolver?.
Might be able to affix a tank under the barrel, no idea how you could get the valve system to work or anything. |

i think i am going to need more fuel for this thing than a co2 cartage of that size will supply...
probably going to need to have an external tank with a line
(i have an old oxygen tank that i had in mind. 2 inch dia and about 16 - 18 inches long)
I am not familiar with revolvers, does the cylinder turn when the hammer is cocked or something like when you release the trigger?
i have no way to get a dead revolver
do you know the angle of the grip? i was thinking something like 20* from perpendicular |

Well, you've got single and double action on a revolver.

Double-action/single-action
A double-action/single-action (DA/SA) firearm combines the features of both mechanisms. Often called traditional double action, these terms apply almost exclusively to semi-automatic handguns. The function of this trigger mechanism is identical to a DA revolver. However, the firing mechanism automatically cocks the hammer or striker after the gun is fired. This mechanism will cock and release the hammer when the hammer is in the down position but on each subsequent shot, the trigger will function as a single action. The Mateba Autorevolver is a hybrid revolver that functions on a DA/SA system. However, it is different in function than either a conventional revolver or semi-automatic pistol. The Beretta 92 is a good example of a DA/SA semi-automatic pistol. On many DA/SA pistols (including the Beretta) there is the option to cock the hammer before the first shot is fired. This removes the heavy pull of the double-action. Also, there is often a de-cocker to return the pistol to double-action.

That's why you're gonna want a cheapo revolver by Crosman or something. You can take it apart and see how it ticks, and then use that to design something for yourself. |

well, i found a sketch in this topic

made a poppet type of valve today kinda worried about the force it's going to take to open it though
the vavle is 0.5" bore and has 6x 0.1875" holes (should have the same surface area though the holes and valve body as though the barrel (0.438")
at 300 psi it will take approximately 59 lbs of force to open it
(i am going to run a 0.375" hole from the valve to the barrel)
do you think this will work?

got to test the valve today. soldered it in a fitting for my air hose which uses .2oo" id fittings so i couldn't test full flow, but it quickly drops the pressure in the hose by 15 psi or so (like an open hose). seals pretty tight, but when i put it under water there is a bubble every second or so (pretty good for a metal to metal seat that hasn't been lapped).
instant open high flow what more could you ask for?
hammer is going to be heavy needs to be about the weight of a 5/16 bolt that is 6" long
going to remake the valve and change a few things on it so make it more compact and reliable (and so i can use a set in my air compressor, dam harbor freight)
edit* found larger air line fittings, not sure about the line coming out of the compressor but i had a .3oo" id fitting and it drained my compressor in 37 seconds (20 gal 125psi until 0 psi) |
