| When you say "piezo element" do you mean a regular crystal microphone element, or some other kind of sensor? |

yes, those thing you get if you disassemble a regular PC mic |

I use a similar procedure to analyze my springer mods. I put the microphone right up to the compression tube and pull the trigger:
This is useful for examining the amplitude and duration of the vibrations before/after mods, but not so great for identifying specific events during the firing cycle. It looks like you get a nice sharp spike at the target end, but could you be getting mechanical noise at the gun end? There are a lot of noisy events spaced out over several milliseconds, and it might be hard to pick the exact moment the pellet leaves the barrel.
Maybe you could rig some kind of shroud or tube to make the microphone more unidirectional, and then isolate it from contact with the gun to get just the sound of the pellet exiting the muzzle. |

Yep, i did fully isolate the who mics. One even has a free floating foam chamber so it's almost completely impervious to outside sounds. The target mic only registers if something struck the plate. |
