Langedijk Report Part 1

Getting there.

Tommorow will be a good day. I'm going airgun shooting. In Langedijk, near the city of Alkmaar. Right now I'm staying Leeuwarden with my family, which is closer, cheaper and easier.

I managed to find someone who can let me tag along in his van, a Ford Transit loaded up with airtanks and airguns. From the sound of that, it's gonna be GOOD. And there's over 40 people like that coming. And they're bringing friends. And guns.

Going from Leeuwarden to Langedijk means crossing the "Afsluitdijk". Google, it, it's very dutch and you should be able to see it from space.

Anyway, Langedijk is a small town, place, dike? in a part of the Netherlands that's actually called Holland. North Holland to be precise, but enough with the boring Topography.

Being There

First of, this is the only airgun event where you are not allowed on the range WITHOUT PROPER EYE AND EAR PROTECTION. Sure, there'll be silenced airguns and some .177 and .22's but the whole point of this shoot is to destroy things. With airguns. Calibers up to .50, a range loaded with computers, car doors, teddy bears, name it, it's there.

What's so much fun about this, is the fact that it's not gonna be just airguns. There's gonna be blackpowder too. And not just airguns and blackpower either. There's gonna be AK's from what I hear. Wink

There's gonna be a part 2 of this report. Wink

Part 2

Eardrums

After today I can report that I have none left. This is a joke, because I was wearing good earcaps, by Peltor. Mr. Green

There are two ranges. One is the 25 yard range for the more serious shooter, and the other one is the 50 yard range.

One of the nice features of 25 yard range, is that it's attached to the bar, more or less. When you're done with your shooting, you can have yourself a nice beer and watch while other people shoot stuff. The 50 yard range is around the corner.

And there was a lot of stuff.

The day started great, clear blue skye, sun, it was looking good. To bad I was spending time indoors. NOT.

Big bores!

Started off with airgunning of course. .50's, .45's, 9mm's and the lot on the 50 yard range. That range was, by the way, littered with car doors, old pc monitors, pans, pots, chairs, bicycle. An hour after opening most things had holes in the aforementioned sizes. Had a go with some of the Shinsungs and careers, notable the 9mm and .50. Couldn't get my hands on the .45 but then again, how much do you need after .50?

Scares

Hearing protection wasn't really enforced on the 25 yard range, most stuff there stayed below .25 allthough there was an occasional 9mm or .45-er. They mostly came in quietly to give the other shooters a scare, but generally, everyone was well protected when the violence broke out.

Good ol' fun

Also shot a Haenel 49a, which left a great impression. Fairground gun, but the accuracy is fun and the repeating is great too. Kind of the European Red Ryder equivalent I guess. About 1.5 Fpe, as the owner told me.

Also had a good go with my girls 12 Fpe BSA. Wow, I couldn't get it to shoot right before but I guess it somehow landed. This gun is a great and accurate shooter. I still need some more time with it though. Now I had some issues with it and I will get into those in a separate topic!

Other honourable mentions go to the Diana 54 Airking (Wow, that recoilless system is great!), a custom Crosman Carbine (No explanation needed) build from parts of which some were previously owned by me and a AGS PCR-1.

By the way, that AGS is a sort of high quality Discovery from the UK. With high quality I litterally mean HIGH quality. 40 consistent shots at 12 Fpe, but light, a great stock, short and well, just a great rifle. They are kind of budget PCP's but they're definately are doing it right.

BURNIN' POWDER!

After that it was powder-burner time. A 20 round AK box was about 6 euro's so I got two. It's not a lot but I don't like to burn money I guess. Got the AK and the mag with it and they send me down the range. I had a guy looking over my shoulder but after a little fiddling with the mag I was good to go. AK's are fun. Exclamation

Of course, now the game was on and a lot of people had brought their burners. I also got my hands on someone's WW2 K-98. What a terrific gun it is! I only got three shots but cocking the gun is loading paradise.

There was also a Husqvarna shotgun, a carbine version apparently, it was about as long as my own BSA Lightning. The line of people was a bit long and I felt sorry that I couldn't have a go with it. The recoil looked AWESOME. Mr. Green

Overall, a great day. I'll post some pics later, when I get the time and the pics. Wink
