It can be a lot of trouble to get a lefty version and it's often more expensive too. That's a very good point.starting out with,an ambi setup,could be the way to go,if you wanna save some $$....have something to shoot out of the box,and you can put the extra cost of a lefty unit towards personalizing your set up at a later date.   Posted: Thu Apr 22, 2010 2:58 pm donec Senior Member Joined: 19 Dec 2009 Posts: 836 Location: central Texas Pflugerville area I am right handed but I shoot left handed due to my left eye is dominate. The only problems I have had are like Oddtod said the safety is not convenient. I have tried rifles with the cheek piece only being one one side and it was not a problem as I just treated the rifle like it didn't have a cheek piece. Loading is more convenient since I don't have to move the rifle to another shoulder to load. I just lower the barrel and insert the pellet. I remember in boot camp of shooting all 20 shots in the bulls eye right handed. I always shoot lefty though. I crack myself up because twice I've hit my eyebrow with the scope from recoil. You would think I'ld learn. I've placed an order for the Diana 350 Feuerkraft in 22 cal. That has an ambidextrous stock and includes a scope so I should be set. Money is a little tight between buying the rifle and having some machine work done on the motorcycle engine. I shoot lefty. I don't think either of my eyes is really dominant. Although I do write left handed, kick with my right foot, and can shoot a pistol well with either hand. Actually I can shoot a rifle with either hand, just I practice with my left more. Don't have a problem shooting a springer. Bolt actions, of course are designed for right handers, so that can be annoying. I hadn't thought about the bolt but now that you brought it up I have no problem working the bolt with my right hand. Because one with OCD would probably be compulsive enough to need to arrange the letters in alphabetical order... I wouldn't think the M14 would be that hard to function left handed. It may be difficult to properly reload because you would need to A) keep rifle pointed towards goblins, and B) do so supporting it very near to the butt with your left hand. The mag release is rather ambi and could you inform me on function of the bolt catch? I know the M14 is a magazine fed Garand, so upon inserting a new magazine you would only need to pull the bolt handle back a bit to release the catch? EDIT: I'm not sure if this thread is jacked yet?
