Went ahead and ordered 3 springs from James Maccari, 2 where 37 coils and .125 in. wire and 1 was 33 coils .128 wire, used 1 of each in the Quest. no rubbing against the inside of the piston, very good fit.
The guns rock, 1000 fps. with lead, 940 with the new Crosman
Fireball pellets.
Best of all the 3 springs cost 65.00 right to my door, he sends them ground so no duty or tax..

| Those numbers seem pretty high for just a Tarantula spring- did you make some other adjustments as well on the Quest? Or has Maccari improved on these springs in the last couple of years? |

Hi Eric,
I re-cut the piston again and made another cocking groove and the hole where the sear catches the piston. New spring guides and top hat, I taken all the play out of the piston where it meets the cocking arm.. that gains you another 1/3 of an in. in the total sweep area of the piston. Im sure that makes a big diff. I also found that the Crosman heavies old style only doing 750 fps.. not a very good seal in the barrel where as the Crosman Fireballs are doing 890 with the .125 in. wire and 940 with the .128 wire, the 1 Quest always did shoot higher than the other.. thats the one with the .128 wire, also there is no weights in front of the top hat.. no room the coils are just about touching.
There is no play at all in the cocking arm, you have to break the barrel all the way to the very end and thats where the sears catches.
Also finally shimmed up the barrel pivot.. on the 1 Quest I had a space of
.026 and on the other .024 in. between the fork and the breech. you can get all sizes of brass sheets at a hobby store, finally getting it to shoot the way it was suppose to.
RWS hollows are breaking the 1000 fps.

Eric measured the total sweep area of the piston is 4.106 in. check it against yours .. thats where you make up the fps.

| Nice. How is it for handling at this point? Even on one of my lower-powered guns, I have to hold the gun tight for it to shoot properly. |

Finally happy with the Quest, big improvements with the brass shims.. hitting quarters at 25 yds. before that was a hit and miss kind of thing ..more misses. The power is incredible with the new spring and over 4" of sweep area, the raptors go sonic every shot.
Real happy with it now.
