Spent the last couple days inside the main Crosman factory in East Bloomfield, NY.
Took apart a bunch of guns, including a couple Marauders and NPSS's.
Got the grand tour.
Surprisingly, except for the SoftAir product and a bunch of springers from China- Crosman is still making most of their guns in the USA. Good for them.
Continious testing of their own, and other manufacturers products to determine quality and features.
Also surprisingly, they do a ton of metalwork in-house- tubes, frames, barrels and what-not, Co2 caplets, pellets and BB's. Good for them again.
So, it appears some manufacturing can indeed stay domestic- maybe if more companies tried a wee bit harder to do it- not everything would run off to China.
Good bunch of people at Crosman I might add- and they are very charitable towards customers with warranty claims that frankly, most would have told the customer to take a flying leap on (home modifications, requests for things that just aren't applicable (i.e. "I want an adjustable trigger on my Discovery", or "I want a higher comb on this xxxx that doesn't have a raised stock")) when people send these things in, they actually look it over and investigate- not immediately put the product back in the box and return it. This is not to say the customer always gets their way- but it appears they have not taken (justifiably in many cases) the path of "go away and stop wasting our time).
So, thumbs up for Crosman's business methodology/manner from the factory floor.
Sorry, no pictures- they didn't particularly like that idea. |

Thanks for the write-up, Eric. It's good to hear.
What was your sense about the people there - are they airgunners, simply manufacturers, or a mix (like you would find in any industry)? |

Probably a mix.
I did not meet any die-hard fans- they probably got to shoot so much in years gone by they aren't real "gung ho" to talk about it.
They use a lot of rotating "temps" to cover business/order fluctuations, so these people are likely more "average Joe" types- although on the younger end of the age scale.
A significant portion of the employees spend time firing guns for tests- functional test (does it fire, does it fire correctly) and in the case of the PCP and NPSS lines, every gun is shot a number of times for consistency (and chronied) before being packed- so I imagine the thrill wears off after awhile. This is on top of the testing department people who log all sorts of things- battery life on SoftAir product, shot consistency, design changes, examining competitor product and so on. |

| Just a few bits/pieces from rifles sent back under warranty and a couple things saved from the "recycle" bin. Not much really. |

Ummmmmm pilfering... Good for you!
Thanks for the write up Eric...
My dealings with Crosman Customer/Tech. Service have always been great... Even with the low volume of OE parts I buy.. I have never been treated as an inconvenience... Alway with respect and in some cases... above and beyond the call of duty... |
