the new spring works great but the pellets are off buy as much as 2 inch over 30ft , ive tryed all the pellets that are around, there all about the same for accuracy, crosman walmart crappytire ones.I can get three or four shots with tight grouping,SOMETIMES hit the same spot I had shot before, than the shots will wonderoff and the first shots are always duds.Lubed the Spring up with EP2 grease always has a nice BANG when I fire. But some shots are just out there, no idea were they went?would be nice to get this airrifle balls on accurate if ya can!?

"bang"? as in from the chamber? That could be severe dieselling- which could kill the gun pretty quick. Any amount of dieseling may affect overall accuracy if the velocity spread from shot-to-shot is significant.

I have yet to do a final sighting-in and shoot with my Phantom- I also have the CharlieDaTuna GRT-III trigger on it now. I took a couple shots today to see how it felt and it is completely different from what I was getting used to- the trigger pull is so light I almost feel like I could set it off by blowing on it. I haven't adjusted it yet- but it's going to take some time to get accustomed to it.

That being said, when I started sighting in the scope a day or two ago- I was getting the idea that I was either having a slight amount of barrel shift or that it does need a re-crown. Until I finish the sighting and shoot it from a firm rest- I can't say for sure what's what, unfortunately.

But- when you say a 2" shift over 30 feet- is that using all the same pellet, or what happens between different pellets? If it's with the same pellet- something definitely sounds off- maybe look into the possibility of dieseling.

BANG is detonation.

Get the grease out of it.

If it hasn't damaged the spring and seal already, then re lube the spring lightly with a Maccari tar or moly + pine tar.

Clean the seal and piston carefully, then burnish the piston with moly tar. Completely degrease the compression tube, crosshatch hone, burnish with dry moly powder and to reassmble use a very light coat of liquid or gel silicone in the chamber to slide the seal into the chamber.

As long as the spring guide is tight enough inside of the spring the gun should be twang free and very consistant for velocity.

With a good crown it should shoot very tight groups.

A teaspoon dab of pine tar with a dusting of moly powder will lube dozens of springs. When the tar isn't sticky anymore there is to much moly in the mix. If that happens the add some more pine tar until it is sticky again.

Or a better solution is get some from Air Rifle Headquarters

Graphite powder is entirely different, although some people use graphite lubes instead of oil. Moly powder is really more of an industrial supply- but you can buy it- just not in any corner retail store I've heard of thus far.

Liquid moly can work- but it will be a bit more work, look here: http://www.airgunhome.com/agforum/viewtopic.php?t=491&start=15

Moly anything can be applied by rubbing it on, then wiping it down, gently- moly has a tendency to stick to metal quite readily (and skin and cloth and so on- it's messy stuff).

Graphite is ground carbon powder.

Molybdenum Disulfide is a completly different lubricant with a very low coefficient of friction given friction coefficient values of less than 0.1 and is often also used as a lubricating additive to special plastics like acetal spring guides or piston seals.

KG7 is what I burnish into metal before adding ARH tar to the spring during reassembly . . .

WELL, I dissassembled my phantom again, cleaned the grease out, got some pine tar,and mixed in some liquid moly.Burnished the piston and spring with it, put some liquid silicon in the compression tube.Sounds like an AIRrifle again and not rifle. The shots are alot tighter now.Within 1\2" and not 2" before. Thanks for the lub 101.
