Just wondering if it is possible to kill a wild hog with an air rifle.... I have a Benjamin 392... What with, and how would you do it?

im sure if you were like 10-20 yards away... you would probably need jsb predator polymags and you would have to shoot it straight in the head.

If you are talking about a real wild hog then I doubt your Benjamin 392 would do anything but make it mad and wild hogs are very dangerous animals and are not afraid of anything. I was on a Greyhound bus when it stopped to let some passengers stretch their leg and they just barely got back on the bus before the wild hog hit the side of the bus poking holes in the storage compartment. Gamo advertises their rifles killing hogs but if you look close the hogs look a lot like domestic hogs and are rather small.

NO... do not even think about shooting a hog with your 392.

They make big-bores to kill big critters with airguns... Cool Yes, you can get one, no they are not exactly cheap. No, you probably can't use one to take game in your state.

lay off the gamo propaganda.

if you mean 300lb wild hog....

.30-30 or .44magnum.

my dad had a friend who hunted wild hogs with a .308 (7.62x51)
one he got took 3 rounds to get it down.
the first 2 shots pissed it off
they're known to charge when pissed off.
the 3rd shot was a head shot as it was charging at him.
he said the sausage was good. Mr. Green

Don't even think about using a Benji 392.I'd be sketchy using anything less powerful than a REALLY powerful big bore air gun...and even then I'd probably use at least a .357 mag, with a fuse box shot.Once they freak out, they are really quick, and if one got a-hold of you....

I guide hog hunts and there are some mean hogs but for the most part they are scared of everything. I have lost count of the pigs I have killed with a bow..... I can get very close to a hog so a ten foot head shot is possible for me.

I have to agree...and disagree here. IMHO, you would be stupid to shoot a full grown bore or sow that's 200+ lbs, I don't care how close you are. Concidering how agressive these animals are, that's very damn risky to do.

Where I disagree is this. I alread had heard on hunting show that feral pigs are an issue in southern states. Then tonight on the discovery channel they aired a show called the "Pig Bomb". In 1980 there were approximately 3 million wild pigs across the country. Right about this time too, their popluation exploded (like a bomb), nearly tripling in 20 years.

Reports now show feral hogs in states as far north Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana. These same hogs have seemed to have breed with russian bores, making them even more aggressive then they had been in the past.
Further more... A sow can breed as early as 5 months old. Having on average 6 piglets per litter. Expontionally by the time this same sow is fully mature at 2yrs old, she could have as many as 1500 decendants!

Concidering the amount of damage being done by feral pigs. 50 billion dollars alone in texas one year....This is where I disagree...

If I was out on my own property with my modified discovery in either .22 or .25 and I happened upon a small pack of hogs, I would not take a chance at the big sow/bore, but I would perhaps take a shot at a smaller say 10-20lb piglet. But that would have to be under the right conditions for myself. Even though these are destructive pests, I still believe that it's my duty to make a quick clean kill.

Hog hunters I know seem to prefer a 44 magnum lever action. Some guys like semi autos, but large bore is critical because hogs can be dangerous. The Marlin or Puma or Winchester lever actions have fast follow up shots and are compact, easily manuverable brush guns. 35 remington is a great choise, but ammo availability leans toward 44 magnum these days.

I know it's poor form to talk powder burners on the AirgunHome page, but unless you are going to go large bore (high dollar) I don't think airguns are apropriate for any sort of dangerous game. The Gamo add campaign is going to get some one hurt. Follow their lead at your own perril.

I've never hunted a wild pig with anything less than a 30.06 and this is from 50 yards or so. I live in ohio and yes we do have wild pigs. I like the 44 mag too, but my schults and larsen is my baby and my goto gun for big stuff.

I just recently watched a video of some guys in Hawaii doing this.I guess it's the traditional way to do it on the island, and other places.Get the dogs to pin it down, and then stick it.
