Does anybody know anything about the Air Venturi Bronco, or the Ruger Explorer? Both appear to be smaller, low power guns:

I'm thinking the Bronco has to be a re-branded Mendoza, but I don't recognize the Explorer.

Anyway, it looks like there might be a couple more options for young shooters.

The Air Venturi could also be a Norica of some sort. Pyramyd has just about given up on Hatsan at this point- leaving them with Norica and Mendoza as their "OEM" providers.

The Umarex/Ruger is similar to the Crosman Raven. It is likely a Chinese-made, "Ruger" branded product like most (all?) of the other Ruger airguns on the market. I picked one up at the SHOT show last week and it seemed allright for a 9-12 year old to use. Unfortunately no one was allowed to shoot or discharge anything in the convention centre- so I couldn't try it out.

The Ruger is interesting because of the huge trigger - like they put a larger action in a scaled-down stock.

I would bet on Mendoza for the Bronco. Many of the parts are identical to my RM-577, and it has that new split-blade Mendoza trigger. It also has the curved stock at the bottom of the butt, which I've seen typically on Mendozas and Sharks. Pyramydair says "designed by Tom Gaylord." I suppose if Pyramydair promised enough volume it wouldn't be hard for Mendoza to make a few (simpler) stocks for the RM-10 and slap on the muzzle brake from a RM-100.

There are two features about which I'm curious: First, it looks like a scope stop moulded into the compression tube end cap. Second, what's that "ring" on the compression tube just behind the yoke? An "O" ring, or a rolled crimp perhaps? Maybe they can teach an old perro new tricks.

I'm betting- seeing as how I can see no other purpose for it- that it is an insulator/"bedding" for the tube.

Tom Gaylord/B. B. Pelletier has done a couple of posts in the PyramidAir blog on the Bronco. It is made by Mendoza. Apparently he's worked w/ PA to get this project up and running.

The first two Blog entries :

I'm going to post this, and it has nothing to do with T191032, but should be stated so people are aware of it: Tom Gaylord is not "independent"- he is essentially an employee of PyramydAir, and his wife works in their marketing department (I believe she is actually in charge of it).

So- Tom Gaylord has not "worked with" he "works for" PyramydAir- as in their is no independent criticism of products- he and his wife rely on Pyramyd to pay the bills.

Just thought I should clarify this again- Gaylord has shown little evidence of being "independent" or "unbiased" in his views or activities for quite some time- they are seemingly always in alignment with Pyramyd's business ideas and objectives.

Which also means he can try several examples and report on the best one.

Mayme it'd be fun to start a weblog with several ghostwriters under the name of "airgun a-hole" or something, and then be provocative, negative and spoofy on the whole reviewing thing.

With a tagline like "Hey everyone, I'm the Airgun A-hole, bringing you the very best of the very worst in airgunning! Today, we take a look at the new Air Venturi Bronco, or should we say "Mendoza"?"

And a piece of perforated paper with an "A" shaped hole.

Here is part 3 of the blog on the Bronco:
http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/

It retains the Mendoza barrel pivot, which is a straight pin instead of a screw. There is no means of adjusting the compression tube yoke to compensate for wear, other than clamping it in a vise. In the comments section somebody asked about the "ring" - it's a crimp to retain the end block in the tube.

Just so ya'll know, to kinda update this, one of the fellas over on RimfireCentral has purchased a Bronco after a lot of Qs.

I just got an order from Pyramid, complete w/ their flyer, with the Bronco splayed out on the cover.
