I was just wondering if anyone could give me a recomendation. We got this bad rat problem, and I need a Semi-Auto. I'm trying to stay cheap and not in the SCREAMING FPS ratings. Got to keep in mind that i'm shooting indoors, and may not have a back drop available, and I really don't want that pellet / BB exiting the other side of them with a good amount of velocity. The little bastards are too quick for my 880, takes to long to reload. I don't care if I have to hit them more than once as long as I can drop them within 3 shots, I'm good. I just need to pull some serious rambo S*#@ on them.
Or what caliber \ ammo \ FPS combo would be good, and I can search from there.

5+ fpe is fine. i recommend a decent $100 springer though (there are many). as far as semi auto a crosman 1077?? they're not powerful.
semi auto pcp's are very expensive. i don't know too much about them personally.

i go for broke. i deal with my rat problem with a benjamin .22 marauder with 30+ fpe. Twisted Evil

any caliber will work fine on rats. i just like 'em to explode, that's all. Cool

also. if you're experineced with roof rats they need to be stalked. when you shoot one the rest hide for a while. i've never killed more then 3 in one sitting. Rolling Eyes

hence, a good springer.

Hammerli, 850 magnum, CO2 powered 8 shot repeater....will take care of the problem, plus you'd have a nice air rifle for goofing off, plunking, whatever. Yes, I want one too Laughing Laughing

It is not a semi-auto, but should be up to the challenge, and relatively inexpensive, the Mendoza RM-200, available in .177 and .22.

I've got a RM-377 (essentially the RM-200) when Crosman was selling them. Decent, heavy-real rifle feel, accurate. Add a decent Adjustable Objective scope and do pest control for rats, tree rats (squirrels) and the ever present "evil" soup can.

You'll be better off with the RWS/Umarex/Hammerli 850 Magnum. 8 shot repeater and one of the best CO2 rifles on the market. You can take my word for it, I owned two and only because something better (but more expensive) got along, I sold it. Mr. Green

Accurate and good power too. I recon a .22 one would be just fine for the job.

I'd agree, the 850 for sure. I have one in 22 and it's deadly to squirrels within 25-30 yrds. It like Rws hollow points. Best bang for the buck!

I think I'll save for that 850, Then I can just make a bigger clip for it Twisted Evil . But I think that would be about the best choice.

If it's an option for you, consider this test. When I had red squirrels getting ito the eves, via my roof, I tested my intended airgun against a spare shingle. I had re roofed my house a couple years previous, so I had a bundle of the exact shingles that were up there. Laying one down and shooting it will tell you things that you may not want to find out 'in real time' Shocked

I had no problems with a Crosman Quest in 22. Didn't even scuff the shingles, but it knocked the rats like a sledge hammer. I have used a Webly Tempest indoors with good results. Kills a rodent cleanly, leaving the pellet sitting on the carpet. If you shoot a rodent through the body (from above, spine shot) and pick it up RIGHT AWAY, you shouldn't have any gore on your carpet. That time, I was going to replace the flooring anyway, but it was nice to see that it caused no harm.

You can go into a home depot or the like and pick up samples of stuff like vinyl flooring, carpet, maybe even a shingle that looks as close as possable to yours. The samples are free so you can bring them home and 'see how they would look' in your house. Bring them home and see what your airguns will do to the surfaces you may want to shoot a critter on. It's an entertainig afternoon of airgunning, and it teaches you things you need to know.

I have an 850, might want to do the above test to see if it will punch through. If you have a problem go with the 1077. Should be enough to get them, or even the 357 repeater. Don't know the speed on one of those though.
