I recently acquired an old Benjamin C9 .20 and am shopping for hunting pellets.

What are the best pellets for pest control and where can I find them?
I would like to dispatch my target in one shot from about 30ish yards.

Disclaimer: I know this is a noob question that has probably been asked a million times and I apologize in advance if this is the case. I did a search that returned nothing.

Any good Dome pellet your gun shoots....
stay away from points.....
JSB Preditors are ok if your gun shoots them...

Yer can't beat a dome pellet..

I stay with JSB and H&N pellets...

any reason why a dome is better? Are they equivalent to hollow points?

How do I know if my gun shoots JSB Preditors?

This is one of those things where opinions vary, because conditions vary. A dome pellet gives a good mix of penetration and shock. I would consider a hollowpoint perhaps better at close ranges. The Predators are good pellets too. IMO though, the "deadliest" pellet will be the one that shoots straightest out of your gun. At higher velocities the pellet design becomes more of a factor, but at lower velocities the biggest factor is accuracy. Any .20 cal pellet will shoot out of your gun, but the only way to know whether a pellet will shoot accurately is to try them and see.

i find it to be a "toss up" between the domes and pointed...penetration and 'shock' are readily transmitted with these two main style pellets.

success is in learning the correct formula for your application in relation to size, speed and distance to the game for the projectile selection: a larger animal will require a larger, faster moving projectile for deeper penetration. the distance to that target adds to the equation...you don't take your .177 daisy BB gun to hunt deer, do you? nor would you take your 30-06 for squirrels...you have to balance it.

almost every one of my four air rifles will shoot them accurately at long ranges.

i would say to stay away from wadcutters for anything more than plinking or paper targets at close ranges.

I was playing around with some targets, decided to shot at the dogs "Kong" chew toy. I held the pellets and captured them inside so I could just dump them out. I found that the crosman destroyer pellets do very well. Good shock value because of the semi wadcutter shape, but on impact the outer edge peels back and leaves the point exposed with a nice cone shape. Those are my pick for anything closer then 25 yards, anything further then that I use crosman hollow points. That is until my pyramid pellet order comes in and I can test with some more varieties.

The CP UltraMags .22 cal in my Beeman is the deadliest combination I've had in 25 years of killin'. BTW, they're a DOMED pellet. I ordered the CP Hollowpoints in .22 at the same time from Airguns of Arizona but, I haven't tested them yet. I'll let you know what I think when I do.

I shoot CPL's in my R9 .177 In my AA410E I shoot JSB Exact's. Both are "domed" pellets. My R9 also shoots Crow Magnum's very well,out to 40yds. but after that they fly erratic. They do deliver alot of shock though. Ron

In the UK we have a company called BISLEY and they market these heavy pellets in these 3 calibers: .22/.177/.25

1. Bisley Magnum's
2. Bisley Pest Control's

Both are heavy pellets designed to pack a punch with Rabbits and other small vermin. I use them in .25 to control rats. I understand that the Magnum's are sold elsewhere as H+N Barracuda's.

A round nose pellet carries it's energy further than a pointed or hollow point.... and way better than a wadcutter.... because it has a better Ballistics Coefficient.... Some people call anything with a rounded front "domed".... but there is quite a difference in shape (and BC) between something like an RWS Superdome and a JSB Exact.... Rolling Eyes

If you are shooting at close range, you may consider a wadcutter or hollow point.... If you are shooting at longer ranges, you will find that a true round nosed pellet will pack more punch.... The bottom line, however, is use whatever your gun shoots accurately.... Mr. Green

How big is 'yer problem? 1fpe per 1lb of problem, injected directly into the skull will do the job.

Keep it pumped... use regular Benjamin Cylindricals.

Inject to the eye when quartering towards.
Below ear when broadside.
Top of skull facing you.
Behind ear quartering away.
Back of the skull when facing away.
