So I got a new crosman storm xt for the purpose of dispatching some pesky blackbirds that keep pooping all over my wifes car... took it out of the package and set it in my office and went to make dinner.
Well a few minutes later I hear a BANG! and find her nephew in the office with my new toy. He just dry fired my brand new gun! CRAP! I know one is not supposed to do this. I then took it outside and shot it into an old bass pro catalog and it penetrated around 300 pages at 5 yds... So it seems ok...
Question is... did he damage the gun? |

Welcome to the forum.
He probably didn't damage the gun, but as always it should not be done.
This leads to the question of... why did you leave the gun out, and cocked? |

| I didnt leave it cocked, didnt even have a tin of pellets with it. I did leave it out though. Hes not a young kid and has some experience with regular guns at the local range, just not spring air rifles, which I told him are a lot different than the pump style guns he is used to... |

hope you enjoy this forum there is alot that can be learned here (im new too)
even if it is fine and no damage was done i might be inclined to tell him he screwed the seal on it, teach him a lesson and mabey get some yard work out of the deal

you're definitely in the clear, i've dry fired my genesis at least twice. first time was right out of the box too, didn't really know any better but figured it wasn't a good idea after the fact. the other time was when i had everything out of the stock so i could see how the trigger disengaged the sear, and since i had just adjusted my trigger to UBER light i scared the crap out of myself lol. had it tuned not too long ago and the guy said my seal looked brand new so don't worry.
you should tell him he messed something up though, teach him not to mess with other peoples guns when they're not around |

A few dry fires probably won't hurt anything if the gun is not brittle or aged so that it's seals/spring are not already shakey.
The idea is- try to avoid it, but if it happens, don't panic- chances are good that everything will be fine. If something does break on a dry-fire, the gun probably needed some maintenance beforehand. |

Reminds me. I was at an antique store one time, and I saw an old Diana pistol in the case. I asked to look at it, and it was in reasonable condition. Talking to the owner about it, he tells me he's been having fun shooting BBs through it. 'They will roll right through if you tip it down' He didn't have pellets. Then, to show me whatever, he cocks it and dry fires it, with a dopey grin on his face to show me how much fun the gun was.
It may have been worth buying when it arrrived at his store, but I decided to leave it there. Sad story, but true. |
