Hi all!
I have a Beeman Sportsman's series rifle in .177. Don't know the exact model but check photo.
The gun seems quite powerful to me, but I am wondering how it ranks amongst other pellet rifles.
Do you think this gun is powerful enough to kill animals like groundhogs and raccoons?
Let me know what you think
Thanks!

Nice rifle, is that one of those 1000 fps one? Looking at Beemans site looks like they got or bought out another company but just guessing.
If it is a high powered rifle then with some proper pellets it should do the trick.
I wonder if it really does 1000 fps? |

The "Sportsman" rifles are Beeman's made-in-China line. Not typically the best quality, but generally fairly accurate.
A single-shot .177 (it will, realistically, shoot pellets at 850-900fps, not 1000) is generally not going to do it for groundhogs and raccoons- but would be ok for small birds and squirrels. |

| Like what Eric said, they generally don't shoot 1000 fps because they are tested with PBA and other light weight pellets, not always the best thing to shoot out of an air rifle though especially when pursuing game. |

Well from what I've read about on all the different sites, practically ALL rifles are tested with the PBA pellets- the lighter the better....it appears to just be good marketing..if it will shoot 1000 fps using a 2.2 (or whatever)PBA pellet, then they didn't lie, cause it will shoot 1000fps. Just so happens, apparently that NOBODY but the manufacturers ever use the PBAs.
As far as identifying your rifle, look it over really close...there has to be a name or part number, serial number or something that identifies it...How it "stacks up" to others doesn't mean squat, really. As long as YOU like it and enjoy shooting it, then it's THE one for you ! Sure looks good in the photo, I will say that
I see you're new here, so WELCOME !!! Did you just get the gun?? If so, didn't previous owner know the model? |
