ok, ok... I'm overdue in posting picts, being a newbie and all...
The lever gun is Umarex/Walther's copy of the Winchester 94 in .177 and uses Walther's 8 pellet rotary magazines. the semi-auto is my 22lr burner (Glenfield(Marlin-copy) Mod 75)
Here's the basement range. the sunlight was working against me but there's the electrical putty box in the middle, the altoids cans to the left and the knock downs to the right. some of the other targets are for the kids (and my)airsoft guns
here are the knock downs (also known as 'what to do with leftover strap hinges and some fender washers). this picts could be blurrier, but it'd be difficult...
and here's the latest idea for a backstop. a 1/3 full can of paint with the 'hardener' added. the pellets sink in nice and quiet. IF the paint stops being soft, the lip of the can will catch any pellets that bounce.

Nice idea with the paint.
How do you feel about the lever action? Looks interesting to me. |

I'm an impatient shooter. 10 shots in 15 minutes! not on your life! and using the lever is more interesting that just yanking on the trigger on a regular semi-auto repeater (though, those have their merits too!). and the weight is very nice in the hands. A little lighter than what the actual thing would weigh, but then i wouldn't be firing .30-30 rounds in my basement!
the action is smooth, and the iron sights are just open enough to give a good sight picture on a 6 o'clock hold. Now if I could only SEE Alstone's targets for the fortnight competition a bit better, i'd really be set. I haven't been shooting long enough to know if the trigger is good or bad, and the budget is such that i won't try tinkering with it until I can afford an airgunsmith or a trip back to umarex to repair something i've foulled up!
the paint 'leading' was one of those inspirational moments right before the trash can... Even though the can is plastic, except for the rim and lid, I realized that hardened paint would be an excellent backstop. I tried to just let the paint harden by itself, but got impatient and invested the $2 in the paint hardener. the other paint can on the range has two paint lids in the bottom of the can. with the can being plastic, I was able to just push the lid right into the can. One lid has proven very puncture resistant, so I know two lids give me LOTS of time before I have to replace that target.
The kids like the altoids cans as targets. two strings to keep them facing front, instead of spinning, and duct tape to keep them closed, and you've got 100+ shots on target before it's no longer stopping pellets due to the lead poisoning creating all of those holes! |
