Gamo is cheap and the choice for people who cannot or will not effort a 1000 dollar pcp high quality rifle.
Moreover they are enough for shooting at 25-30 yards, and most people who buy such a gun , needs a toy for shooting in their garden at cans or something else.
I bought one time the Gamo .177 Pro Magnum Penetration 7,87 grain.
The quality is realy bad...price was 2,50 € (about 3 dollar) for 250 (or 200 cause i sorted a lot of deformed pellets out) rounds.
A cant say much to the accuracy, cause i just shoot at the moment with my CO2 S&W Revolver 8" barrel with a better 25 years old tasco scope 3-9x and stock
The accuracy is quite the same like RWS Superpoint extra with sorted gamo pellets at 25 metres (1-2" really depends on wind and co2 pressure)
But the Material of the Gamo pellets is very hard, cause its the only pellet (RWS superpoint,HN Super Match, and other flat-head pellets also testet) which has enough stability to penetrate harder wood enough to get no ricochets..
I hope you know what i mean...my englisch is a little bit rusty |

Well Gamo claims that it is 52% quieter."Yeah Right".The question is quieter that what?Notice how they don't tell you where they got the info?It is more quiet than other Gamo's I've shot.I've put about 500-600 shots through it,and it is more quiet, than when I first got it.It does work, but the real question is how much?
I do think the rifle is sort of pricey, considering you at least need to put in a GRT- III trigger. It is still a good rifle though. It is unfortunate I have to sell mine in the next couple of weeks,so It can help pay for my new PCP.It is a good choice if you want a nice quiet springer that is accurate out to 30 yards.or so.It is also a good choice if you want to do some pest elimination,as there is not usually an issue with over penetration. That being said,I would probably not get another one,not because the rifle is bad,but I too have an issue with the way Gamo does business,so I won't be helping thier sales any time soon.

First, let me repeat myself...
I love my Gamo!
I've had more fun with that Wal-Mart Big Cat and a GRTIII trigger than the money I've spent. It's an excellent little shooter and I have no qualms or hesisation with taking a rabbit, rat, or squirrel at 60 yards or less.
But if I was going to spend money on a "really good" AG, it wouldn't be a Gamo. Frankly, from what I've seen of the Gamos rolling off the line now, the product quality is dropping steadily every month. While I'm very happy with mine, I don't think I'd recommend anyone go out and buy one now. But then, that seems to be happening with a lot more companies than just Gamo so whatcha gonna do?
As far as the marketing goes...
Man, hahahahah, if you've ever bought a new or used car, you really don't have any call to get picky about AG marketing. Think about it. Look at pretty much any product today and the marketing is just flat out ridiculous. Look at the MPG figures they offer for new cars. How many of you have ever bought a car that actually got anything close to the advertised mileage?
You know, in the knife world, one of the most despised companies out there is Cold Steel. Not because of their knives, but because of their marketing. I really can't understand why people go after Cold Steel but leave Dark Ops Knives (google it, you'll be amazed and disgusted.) alone.
In short, I learned long ago to ignore the hype and buy what I want. The only time you get burned is when you're foolish enough to buy a 140 dollar AG thinking you're going to get a 1000 dollar hunting rifle and if you're that much of a sucker, I can't muster a hell of a lot of sympathy for you, ya know?
But, that's just me. |

Probably true. Gun magazines aren't too bad (yet), but the archery magazines I've ready imply that every bow comes with a girl in camouflage underwear. |

They don't??? Damn.
Beyond that- advertising is, at least theoretically and legally, not supposed to be outright lying to people. However, when lawmakers don't care- mainly because consumers (read that: voters) don't seem to really care- we end being constantly BS'ed day-in, day-out. Honestly, I think it's gotten really bad the last few years. Sure, it's always been bad- but lately it just seems to me it's gotten alot worse (?). |

i have a Gamo Stutzen .177.
thru the chrongraph with a 7.9 RWS superdome at an average of 865 fps and it's not "broken in" yet.
it is of high quality construction and finish and is accurate.
IMO, it's too heavy to use as a 'moveabout' hunting rifle as the use of a sling is very difficult if not impossible with it.
if one were to mount and zero a scope with the idea to sit in one spot and 'snipe' at game, it will surely do an admirable job of delivering the goods. |

eric,
I agree, one of my other fav hobby is treasure hunting. Magazines like "
Western and Eastern Treasures" have NEVER given a bad review of a metal detector that I know of.
Then there's all those late night advertisers....that's a whole new issues there. Almost worthy of moving this thread to the BS forum in order to continue to rant about it.
But back to my main issue. I actually expect Gamo and even some other brands to hype their product to sound better then it really is. My biggest peeve here was sapposedly a ligit show, offering sapposedly ligit hunting advice succuming to advertising pressures/dollars. To the point a hunter actually advocated taking questionable shot on an animal. Even when pest hunting, I believe it's a hunter's duty to make sure that animal is taken humanly and switfly as possible. What enough hunting programs, and you tell me how many claim a head shot is alright. |

This comment is NOT intended to just beat up on Gamo, they DO have a right to free speech, and I would never be the one to want to detract from it.
Having said that...I just got done watching the commercial for the Gamo Whisper. shows some dude vaporizing critters in the dark, goes on about it's super power and how quiet it is, flashing lights, action, etc., etc.
I was just wondering what the odds are of some gun-hatin' granny or politician seeing that and stirring up the political pot for US airgunners.
We all know how wrong and inappropriate that would be, but for the ill-informed..."Oh my God! it' like a .22 rifle!" "It has a silencer! aren't those supposed to be illegal?" "They're encouraging the torture and death of innocent rodents!" "That damn NRA is using loopholes to put deadly airguns in the hands of gangsters and innocent children everywhere!" "There should be a law....."
As I've said before, I believe the advertising works, and it sells their guns, I just can't help but to wonder about long term repercussions.
I wouldn't force them to stop, even if I could, but I sure wish they would consider things a bit farther. Afterall, What's gonna happen to THEM if the US one day decides to follow UK's 12 FPE example? |
