I have a quick question for all the experienced shooters out here.

I am new to airgun/target shooting etc. I am planning to buy an CO2 Airpistol for target shooting. The outdoor range in my local area club has pistol distances of 50 and 60 feet.

I am planning to buy CP99 Compact airgun(the fps is 345).

My question is what minimum fps would be best to shoot for 60 feet target practicing? will the cp99 compact be suitable or should i go for other airgun.

Any suggestions for the airpistol?

PS. I liked the look/style Embarassed

of the cp99 compact that too with a blowback. Anyway iam open to any other airgun/pistol suggestions for the 60 feet range.

I would suggest a Crosman (www.crosman.com) 22XX series pistol for just fun and a neat project to work on during rainy days (when you can't go and shoot the thing). The "custom shop" series offer some basic customizations at a fair price. Especially for the less mechanically inclined or those without the tools to do so themselves. This is your best bet for right now. I should warn you that this gun probably won't win you a gold at the olympics, but you have a good chance against the guys at the gun club.

For the serious target shooter (I doubt you are at this stage) something like an IZH 46m. These are simple, dead accurate, and decently powerful. Some people have even stretched the limits to past 35 yards from a good rest, the only problem is little power being left.

Either way the pistol itself will have no problem reaching out to 20 yards. Chances are any problems encountered will be from poor shooting. Have a talk with an experienced match (not combat or tactical) pistol shooter, read guides on accurate shooting.

Velocity is not the key to this (in a scientific way). Velocity is only the speed at which your projectile is moving. This is not calculating the weight of the projectile. I'd rather get hit by a kitchen sponge moving 200fps than a sledge hammer, wouldn't you? For shooting paper less than 20 yards 450-550fps would be ideal (5-8fpe). For hunting you would need energy in the range of 10-25fpe, possibly even as high as 80 (approaching the low end of a .22lr).

Projectile selection is also paramount. .177 is preferred over larger calibers for short range match shooting. Wadcutters (flat, non pointed) pellet should also be used because they cut nice, clean holes in paper. However I would most certainly use other designs if that is what gave the best accuracy. Generally wadcutters are made to higher standards because of their use in competition, and the poor ballistics make little difference at such short ranges.

Fritz is right. Skip the BB's and go for a rifled pellet barrel. I have a Crosman 2240 and a Marksman 2004 (now called the Beeman P17) and I like them both. In their standard form they're both pretty affordable.

A quick question. i checked out the crosman 2240 in the websites. The gun looks good. I just wanted to know whether u can suggest an air gun/pistol which is kinda a repeater/Multishot (I am sorry dunno if thats the technical term)...like in 2240 we have to reload each shot, so am asking whether there are airgun/airpistols with similar accuracy but can shoot like 6-12 rounds without reloading.

It's really not that hard to reload them anyway. I know people who have modified ones for power, and take them hunting. So the action is quick enough for a follow up shot.

Welcome to AirGunHome laku234, you could try a Rohm Twinmaster Action they uses a six shot magazine or a single shot adapter, are very accurate and use a Walther barrel, they also have an expansion chamber to minimise the effect of Co2 cooling.

BTW for target pistol shooting the range is 10m or 32.5 feet, so most pistols can cope with this range, but get a pellet gun not a BB one, if you can’t afford a Twinmaster then a 2240 would do the job but don’t bother with any of the Umarex, Crosman, RWS, Colt or Desert eagle type guns for target shooting.
