Hi guys.
I have a 2240 with a Crossman steel breech and 14 inches barrel mounted on it.
My question is: do I need to change the breech to change caliber, or just the barrel and bolt?
I do not use the gun for hunting (it is illegal here) so I am more concerned with velocity than killing power.

| Just the barrel- the stock Crosman bolts are the same size (.177 vs. .22). |

Correct me if I'm wrong.... but although the bolts are the same size body, aren't they different at the front end.... IIRC, they have a different taper on the front and a different O-ring to seal against the end of the barrel....

| Technically, yes, but Crosman does not seem to discriminate when packing things (they become a mix&match affair it seems) and despite this, I have yet to hear anyone who has noticed from a performance perspective. Don't get me wrong- perhaps when using the "correct" .22 bolt in a .177 barrel it will be a bit tighter pushing in, and likewise the .177 bolt may be a bit more loose, but it seems the difference has never been enough for anyone to notice without breaking out their calipers. |

| I agree. I've encountered the same with Crooked barn bolts, in the fact that it hardly makes a difference in performance. I personally think that tighter is better. |

So I guess it does not matter.
And I should do fine with just a barrel ?
By the way, does anyone have a clue as to what velocity I can expect from a 24 inches barrel in .177, a ballpark figure ?
