how does a phantom compair in sound to that of a quest 500? how about if you preform the piston mods and upgrade the spring in your phantom?

Thanks

Eric

I can't give you a total, 100% precise comparison as my Quest has seen alot of wear and I don't know which spring is in it (fits- but I don't know where it came from). The Phantom has all it's original parts except for a 1000 piston and alot less pellets through it (500 vs. probably 5000 on the Quest).

The Phantom is alot less noisy after the Chinese lube being cleaned out and things re-done with a bit of moly and 30-weight ND engine oil and silicone chamber oil. The Quest sounds like there's a bit of slop internally and a more 'tinny' sound- I still have to get it apart and see about putting a PET liner inside the piston around the spring and see how well this works. However, it may be the stock that is absorbing alot of noise on the Phantom- it is solid, full of 'pockets' with airspace to absorb sound and is heavier than the Quest's wooden stock (which is quite thin and has no pockets). Maybe one day I should swap actions between the two stocks and see what happens!

Either way- the Phantom definitely sounds better on its own after changing the factory lube situation, and is quieter and more "solid" feeling than the Quest when similar modifications have been done to both.

You own a Quest, don't you? Have you gotten the Phantom yet? I'd be interested to hear anyone else's ideas on this for comparison.
