Hello all,
First of all I'd like to say what a great forum this is! I've been lurking for the last month just soaking in all the information...all the mods and guides are informative and easy to follow. If fact, I've disassembled, modded and tuned my QB78 using the info I've gathered on this forum and now she's smooth, powerful and accurate...I'm getting ragged holes at 80' and she's punching through the 1/2" ply backstop after about 3-5 shots. Thanks again!
Now on to my current problem:
I'm doing a debur, polish and lube tune on my Crosman Phantom 500. I put her back together but when I tried to cock her, I could hear the sear click but it won't hold. I'm pretty sure it's because I screwed up the trigger pack install. Could someone please post a pic of a properly installed trigger pack. Of particular interest would be the relation of the sear to the receiver. Is the sear supposed to sit on top of the receiver or butted up against it?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again |

| If you shimmed the spring, remove some of the shims- you can overdo it and the spring coils bind before it can cock. Other than than, the trigger pack needs to be bolted to the tube in as rearward a position as possible (i.e. as far back as possible). If neither of these things apply/fix the issue you have likely bent the sear spring all out of shape so it is not strong enough to hold the sear up into the piston sear slot. This has happened many times when the trigger pack is not installed quite right and the rifle is shot- the spring gets the brunt of the 'pain' and flakes out. |

With respect and admiration for an esteemed collegue, I would differ on this one. I believe it should be moved as far forward as possible before tightening that four-sided nut. The piston not only swings the sear ("A"), but also pushes it backward ("B" - hence the elongated hole). With the trigger module fastened to the rear the piston may not have enough travel to accomplish this.

Eric is right about this. If you installed shim (thrust) washers, give yourself 1/4" past the point of the sear latching before the coil binds.
Another possibility is that the whole of the sear is up inside the compression tube. The sear should come to rest against the outside of the compression tube, with only the little triange-shaped "ear" extending up inside. |
