Opening day, and my 2260 PCP Carbine put two Ruffed Grouse in the freezer.... Head shots seem to anchor them better than last year with my Uber-Carbine pumper.... I guess 20 FPE is better than 12.... Quick follow-up shots are now a reality as well, and I needed one tonight as one of the Ruffies ducked just as I pulled the trigger.... Fortunately, he only ran 10 feet and stopped to give me a second shot.... Twisted Evil

Great day today.... limited out on Grouse, three Ruffies and two Spruce.... I still had 1300 psi remaining at the end, so the PCP Carbine is good for a whole day of Grouse hunting without refilling.... Twisted Evil

I may throw a pump in the trunk if I'm planning on being out all day.... but with 15 good shots available and a limit of 5 grouse I'd have to have a bad day to need it.... Mr. Green

I finished up fitting my new repeating breech to my Grouse Gun.... It uses an 850 magazine which you index manually....

The way I have the gun set up currently I get 16 shots (2 magazines) at 20 FPE filling to 2000 psi and shooting down to 1200.... Now that it is a repeater follow-up shots will be much quicker.... Mr. Green

I did some plinking with my 22XX PCP Carbine today.... blasting pellet tins at various ranges.... I found out that 3 MilDots of holdover with the 4 X 32 Leapers scope is dead on at 100 yards:

3 shots from the bench at 100 yards.... 18.1 gr. JSB Exact Heavy pellets at 706 fps (20 FPE).... Mr. Green

I made a really cool discovery today.... When I put on the repeater breech, I also changed the barrel band to float the barrel.... It looks from the side like a regular barrel band.... but in fact the hole is actually 1/2" ID so it clears the 7/16" barrel by 1/32" all the way around.... I was hoping for an increase in accuracy.... but I didn't get it.... The groups on my 20' inside range were still just over 3/8" OD.... the same as they were in the old version.... I know from my outside testing that that will result in barely dime sized groups at 20 yards, which I confirmed last year.... Mind you, that was good enough to put 22 Grouse in the freezer last Fall.... Cool

I wondered about sliding an O-ring into the space around the barrel inside the barrel band.... It is much thinner than a 1/16" thick O-ring.... but by using a 1/4" ID x 1/16" thick O-ring by the time it is stretched over the barrel you can force it into the space with a jeweller's screwdriver.... I shot before and after groups, and the OD of the group shrunk by about 0.1" with the O-ring in place.... ie you can easily cover it with a 3/8" OD washer.... This is the same as the groups I was getting on my 2260 PCP and I shot a 50 yard group with it yesterday that you could cover with a dime at 50 yards.... I estimate the C-T-C distance of the groups shrunk from about 0.2" to 0.1" just by fitting the O-ring inside the barrel band.... I realize that this is only at 20'.... but in my experience measureable, repeatable differences in a 5 shot group inside translate proportionally to smaller groups at longer ranges.... Wink

I'll report back when I get a chance to shoot some groups outside when I resight the gun.... as I got a POI shift of about 1/4" to the right when I put in the O-ring.... I am hoping my dime-sized groups will move out from 20 yards to 25-35 yards.... Time will tell.... Mr. Green

Bob, I have a sort of free float-ish barrel with an O-ring in the barrel band on my S400. So it's definately not a crazy idea.

The problem with this can be that if one were to put a silencer (DISCLAIMER: Provided that theyr'e legal where you live, always check your local law, which probably prohibits them.) or a heavy muzzlebreak on it the POI will almost certainly switch downwards.

I have this with my S400 when I put a silencer on it (airgun silencers are legal over here).

Pretty logical if you ask me, but I thought worth to mention.

Silencers are considered "Prohibited Weapons" in Canada.... Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the heads up, though.... With the barrel sticking out so little in front it shouldn't be an issue.... and in any case would have been MUCH worse without the O-ring and with the 1/32" gap for the barrel to flex in....
