I've been looking at these Air Venturi jobbies they've got over at Pyramid and I was wondering if using one of these would alleviate the need for a tune job or if the gun would still benefit from a tune after one of these is installed?

As I understand it, a tune job is basically just removal of burrs and proper lubrication to ensure smooth spring travel and reduce spring wear.

Right? Wrong? Indifferent?

Whaddaya'll think?

And fitted spring guides, and thrust washers, and polished spring ends - all this would all be eliminated by a gas spring.

It still leaves stuff like polishing the muzzle crown, a trigger job, perhaps an aftermarket trigger, smoothing the cocking linkages, buttoning the piston, smoothing the barrel pivot and lockup parts, etc. These things probably pay less dividends that powerplant mods, and need depends upon the condition of your gun and your own inclinations.

What the heck, I posted something here. Guess I forgot to push submit while I was looking for some info. Mr. Green

Right, as I wanted to say, they don't really guarantee increase in power. Exclamation

Someone on the Dutch forum installed a venturi spring and had a small decrease in power. I'm trying to find the numbers, but I can't find it.

One of the Gurus says it certainly won't increase power over a good regular spring tune...

that is what i've heard. tim (mac-1) says the after market gas rams are crap.

another airgunsmith i found online in my area (his name excapes me) says the same.

theoben makes a ram for the gamo's. theoben is the inventer of gas rams. i had a quote of $150 installed for my 440.

i did a macarri spring instead. it was under $100 installed.

though my rifle died soon after....(it's fixable). no twang, veeeery smooth firing action.

kinda like a low "gonk".

No, I wasn't expecting an increase in power but a decrease in power would be a VBT indeed so thanks for the warning.

I'm not planning on making the conversion now as there's not currently anything wrong with my rifle.

But I was wondering if maybe this might be the way to go one of these days when the spring has lost power and it's time for a replacement.

Snipper, Got a link for this theoben fella?

From what I've been able to gather online, there is sometimes a 10% decrease in velocity. For my use, the ability to leave the rifle cocked for long periods is a huge bonus that would override the loss of power.

who you callin' snipper buuster?? Laughing

i'm having work related senilitey. Rolling Eyes (if i even spelled that right) Rolling Eyes

theoben is the conjunction of the 2 guys who invented gas rams in the 1980's. i can't remember their names either. Rolling Eyes

google... "theoben gasram conversions for gamo rifles". you should find someone as close to you as me.

someone else might help with my memory loss today. Rolling Eyes

i remember the theoben schirocco in the 80's. the first. 830fps+ in 14.3.

even when your spring wears out it'll still shoot. this is my 3rd in my 440. when the last one died... twangy as hell, bent bad, and still hitting 820fps+/7.9. Mr. Green

Airgunning and not knowing Theoben? Shocked

Over here they're the most "pay to much for your gun" brand. Neutral

I don't want a Crow Magnum/Theoben Eliminator. Mr. Green

Gimme a HW90 in .25, and I'm happy. Or even better, an original Webley Pat in .25. No Gas Ram needed and truly a special rifle. Exclamation

The eliminator is SEXY. I'll take one any day. Well... then again... if it's free I'll probably take anything.

Hahahaha, and I was only paying attention to the "free" part. Back on topic now. Mr. Green

I think the Eli is a bit on the expensive side. It's the most expensive break barrel rifle money can buy over here. Neutral I checked. $ 1421.50 for a break barrel.

The only "spring" powered rifle more expensive is the SLR by the same brand. Neutral

By the way. Do you guys think we can refer to Gas Spring powered rifles as "Springers"?

Yes. Those who know about the dissimilarities should see how close they are in more serious parts. Although that may cause a problem for those who don't...
