Just bought my first airgun. It is a GAMO Whisper VH and I am having some problems. I have a Bushnell 3X9 scope mounted and the accuracy isn't what I expected. I obviously don't know much about airguns and could use a little advice. This is a stock, spring loaded gun. What do I need to do to improve accuracy? I have heard some things about a conversion that can be done which replaces the spring action with an air action of some type. Can this be done? Where can it be done? At what cost? Is it worth it? Will the gun perform as well after the conversion, velocity, etc. Are there any pellets that will shoot well with this gun? Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks for your help.

Welcome, have a nice stay.
I think the "conversion" you are talking about is to a gas piston, like in a car shock. More on that later.
Spring guns have a habit of recoiling back and forward, because of the spring. You can learn to tame how it recoils and use that to your advantage. Try holding it just touching your shoulder, and rested in your open palm. Maybe just grasp it enough with your off hand to keep it from falling off. Other members will better describe this.
The gas piston conversion will replace the spring with a sealed tube like your car shocks. This can be left cocked for ever, without spring fatigue, because it uses compressed gas and not a spring. |

About $110.00 USD, check here:

First, I hope your scope is rated for spring-piston airguns. That flying piston produces both rearward and forward recoil, which can damage ordinary rifle scopes.
Second, shooting a "springer" is a little different than an ordinary firearm. Try to hold it in the same position for each shot, and hold it as lightly as you can while still maintaining control:
http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/2007/07/artillery-hold.html
Before you start modifying the gun, I would let it break in. That will take 800-1,000 shots, much more than a firearm. During that time you will also become accustomed to the gun, in a sense "breaking in" the shooter.
The gun may also have a preference for a certain kind of pellet, so experiment. Gamo rates the gun at 1200 FPS with PBA pellets, but that may not be as desirable as you thought. First, light pellets (like the PBA) don't "brake" the piston as well as heavier ones, so the piston and seal slam into the cylinder head. Second, supersonic (1130 FPS) pellets produce a shock wave like the bow wake of a boat, which can destabilize their flight. Heavier and slower might be the ticket. There are sampler packs out there:

There is also a fairly simple trigger upgrade, which may improve your shot release:

Hi....
1 - try diffrent pellets till you fined one thats GROUPS....
then adjust the scope in....
2 - try diffrent holds...best is to let the gun just sit on yer hands
don't hold it tight..."Hold it with out holding it"
