Hi, my information about air rifles is very limited since the most I've done is shoot with a few different types and that's it. Until yesterday when I was given a Slavia 620 air rifle. Obviously it's an old model, I think. It says 74 near the barrel so I'm guessing it's a 1974 model. Very basic, I'd say but from what I've read it's quite accurate and well-built.
So, anyway I would like to know what modifications could I add to this rifle? Now I'm not a die-hard fan of air-rifles and this is my first one (though I'm on my way on becoming one Smile ) so obviously it shouldn't be something too expensive.
I was thinking on getting a cheap, basic scope but I'm not sure if it's even possible to fit it (though I've seen some pics on the net).

So, please can you guys give me some suggestions and an estimate of how much a cheap scope would cost.

Welcome to the forum!

1974 is a good guess. They came out with the 630/631 in 1975, which replaced the earlier models (mine is a 631):

rsterne of this forum had one at one time; if he doesn't happen upon this thread send him a PM.

There are scope options starting at the $35.00 USD mark, but I wouldn't go any lower. Any less and you would be in the range of those 15mm scopes with plastic lenses, which are not all that wonderful.

There are any number of modifications that can be done, but I guess I'd start with deburring and lubrication of the internal parts, and maybe polishing the muzzle crown.

Thanks, it's a nice forum.

I got to test my rifle today and I'm really happy with the results. Smile

I bought a pack of 25 airgun darts for indoor target practice and a pack of 500 lead pellets for outdoor target practice and maybe shooting pests. The accuracy is stunning so far but yet again I'm inexperienced with these. I'm going to take the stock for some new painting since it looks extremely old and scratched. When I have some money I'll see of getting a scope in the 40-50$ range, but I'd rather want it to be easily removable, which I think due to the old model, it's not possible.

Noooo, not darts! They will screw up the rifling! Only shoot darts with a smoothbore! Shocked

My 620 didn't have grooves for a scope.... I had to machine a mounting block, drill & tap the receiver tube for it, and then use Weaver rings.... not a simple thing to do....

If yours has grooves on the top rear of the receiver for a scope, you should be good to go.... I like the Leapers scopes, either their 4x32 AO or the 3-9 x 32 AO or 3-9 x 40 AO would be a good choice, in medium height rings.... Get a scope with an adjustable objective (AO) or you will have to live with parallax error and poor focus at a lot of the ranges typical for an airgun....
