I just came across this wonder.
http://www.gamousa.com/product.aspx?productID=71
It`s a .22 cal 666 fps shotgun/rifle combination gun,looks really interesting.
Has anyone here used one?
If so is the shotgun blast quiet like a pellet blast?

I never knew a air gun like this existed, and are there other shotgun/rifle combination gun`s,or is the Gamo Viper Express the first of its kind.

Use SEARCH. Razz

Rogerflat has one, they're not that great unless you want to kill something within 8 feet. And even then it's not all that succesfull.

There have been others - here's one example:

Yeah, I got one. I think I chronied the .22 pellet at about 540 fps, so the buckshot is probably barely hitting 600 fps. It's virtually worthless and unethical to hunt ANYTHING with at over 10 yards. Between 5 and 10 yards it is a crap shoot. If you can get a good close range shot tho, it is absolutely devastating.

The blast/report sounds the same regardless of what you shoot out of it. The o-ring wore out quick on mine and the smooth bore barrel gets coated with plastic from the shells pretty quickly.

It's a good idea for an airgun, and fun, but not a practical hunting implement.

GOOD TO HEAR!

I do hope someone makes a 1000fps version one day though.

Instead of 1000fps you should look for food pounds. Energy tells you more than velocity.

Which has more power? A speck of dust moving 1000fps or a .22 28gr Eun Jin moving 600fps?

I figure subtract 200fps from most spring guns (advertised) velocity. Some makers/importers don't give you hype- like Beeman, RWS/Diana, BSA, Air Arms, and most other high quality guns. Not saying that Crosman and Gamo don't sell decent products, but they can have quality control issues and like to hype up velocity. I would say that Gamo rifles are in the 12fpe range, just as Crosman springers.

EDIT: the shotgun is an interesting gun but for hunting it is useless beyond 10 yards. If I had one it would definitely be tested (hate when I stumble onto some starlings in the tall grass and they can fly away.)

Actually. Pellet speed can tell you about the energy that is produced with a certain rifle. Weight + Speed can determine the power output of a rifle.

A lot of Gamo rifles are actually quite powerfull, way over 12 Fpe. Most are on the same powerhouse, and do about 14-16 Fpe. Some models are a lot higher too. The Gamo Hunter 1250 in 4.5 actually sends a lot of pellets cracking the sound barrrier. Not necessarily a good thing though.

Gamo rifles are all testfired, they're mighty strong too. They can handle dry firing pretty well too.

Gamo really upped the quality then, or everything I heard has been overstated.

Yes, speed can tell you part of the story. Energy is a function of mass and velocity. Gamo rarely states its 1200 fps with common pellets like JSB 8gr or 14.3 CPH.

Any speed can be achieved with light pellets, as long as your powerhouse is reasonably powerfull.

Gamo quality has been alright for years, the only problem with them is some things like finish, the trigger (the finish on the trigger), PR and the group of people they aim at. The problem isn't that they are putting pellet speeds up that are "way" overstated but more that they don't state what kind of power this rifle holds. They also hardly state which pellets are used. Neutral

Fps is only a small fraction of what a rifle can do.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I'll ever buy a new Gamo. A used one, with tuning done to it, in a large caliber, just for kicks. That's more my thing.
