First off hello to everyone here at these wonderful forums.
This is my first post here and I am actually new to air rifle hunting.

I moved to the high desert of So Cal and basically live in what feels like the middle of nowhere (coming from Los Angeles this is way different)

So I got a Crosman G1 extreme Air rifle about a week and,and im LOVING IT.

I spent a few days just getting my aim down by plinking targets, but after a few days was very comfortable with my shooting.
So I started to hunt all the birds in my backyard (they are eating my grape vine and taking my dogs food)

Anyways that last 2 days where crazy.
First day I got 13 birds,today I got 8.

Most all the shots are from 20 -50 feet away.
At first I was using the gold P.B A pellets (PBA`s are awesome and are getting me about 1200 fps)
But the Beman Hollow point coated pellets seem to be working for me best, its almost a automatic kill.

Im having a lot of fun with the Crosman G1 ,I ts a great gun.
Well here are some pics from day 1 and day 2.
I will take pics and post then in this thread each day I hunt.
Day 1

Day2

Welcome aboard, and here's a tip: Make sure that whatever you shoot is legal to shoot, and that you're up to date to what is allowed and what is not. Exclamation Don't let me scare you away though. Wink

Great to hear the gun is working for you. Mr. Green Don't use light pellets, high pellet speeds aren't something you should like, because you're gun doesn't like em at all. You could smash your piston seal, and your spring will wear out quicker too. Neutral

Well, hope you'll have a good time on the forum. Have fun 'n shoot safe! Mr. Green

That`s good to know about the gold pellets.
I wont use um,they cost more so its a win win.

I guess I should take the pics down,I was hoping to share my kills each day.
But I honestly don`t know what birds are legal to shoot.
But that are being pests in my backyard eating my grape vines.

Where can I find info on what birds are legal to hunt?

the only birds that are truly legal to shoot are any bird that doesn't belong here. The english sparrow is one that is open season on it was imported from England. I do shoot starlings and crows but the rest of the songbirds are protected. Good to have you on board Howard

broom is right. no light pellets. try JSB predators. 8 grain. they're expensive but do EVERYTHING they say they do. you should get 850-875 fps with them in your rifle.

and, where are you from in L.A.? i'm 5 miles from the MANHATTAN BEACH PIER.

Crazy story
I got this crow today in the wing/party of chest and he was squaking like crazy.

The 2 of his friends came flying down out of no where to help him.
They looked mad as hell and im sure if it where a small cat attacking the downed crow they would have attacked it.

They stayed until I fired another shot to finish the crow off.
It was really something.
Took a shot as his friends but no dice.

Even crazier a crow flew over me a few hours before that and dropped a big dump over my head(but he missed)
What a day.
I warmed up today by shooting small dog kibble on my grass about 15 -20 feet away, nailed um each time ,turning them to dust;)

Anyways I got 2 crows today, but only one I was able to find.
Here is the pic ,all shot from 30 to 40 feet away, the other crow not in the pic was about 55 feet away and HIGH up a tree.

BTW,Sniper I was from the mid city part of Los angeles.
But now im way out in the high desert around Victorville.

Welcome to the forum, Midichlorian.

Double check which species are legal where you live. The term "pest" means different things to different people, but the legal definition will usually include things like "doing damage" or "impinging on the habitat of native species." Check and find out - the reputation of all shooters is at stake.

Sniper's estimate of 850 - 875 FPS with 8 grain pellets is a reasonable expectation for the G1. Heavier pellets will not only prevent internal damage, but will result in a smoother shooting gun.

That`s the thing I can`t find any info online about this.

Thanks for the info about the pellets.

As for pest, eating my grape vines ,and jacking my dogs food seems like pest enough for me.

If the admins like I can stop posting pics, but the pics are part of the fun for me.

Anyways I don`t hunt outside my own yard, any thing I have killed has been on my property destroying things.

American crows (Corvus brachyrhynchos) may be taken only under the provisions of Section 485 and by landowners or tenants, or by persons authorized in writing by such landowners or tenants, when American crows are committing or about to commit depredations upon ornamental or shade trees, agricultural crops, livestock, or wildlife, or when concentrated in such numbers and manner as to constitute a health hazard or other nuisance. Persons authorized by landowners or tenants to take American crows shall keep such written authorization in their possession when taking, transporting or possessing American crows. American crows may be taken only on the lands where depredations are occurring or where they constitute a health hazard or nuisance. If required by Federal regulations, landowners or tenants shall obtain a Federal migratory bird depredation permit before taking any American crows or authorizing any other person to take them.

Sounds to me Crows won't have much of a good time. Mr. Green

Too bad this guy hasn't shot a crow, or at least showed us a carcass yet.

So that black bird in the last pic (far left ) is not a crow?

What is it then?

Oh wow I just googled starlings and they are indeed them.

Here is what I found out

Starlings are an introduced bird species that cause millions of dollars annually in crop damage. But they are actually urban birds, who only head into rural areas when the cherries, grapes or other crops there are ripe for their picking, explained Connie Bielert, manager of the starling control program,

Starling Control this year at NORD is budgeted for $26,500 of which the URBAN Dwellers of Vernon will pay $13,647 (51.5%).
