I think that anyone who can't shoot with iron sights (or hasn't, since some people's eyes don't do so well ) doesn't deserve the use of optics.
Iron sights are much more of an art anyway, and can still be just as accurate, some guns even shoot better with iron than glass. My sheridan can do some awesome groups with iron sights out to 40 yards, and still hit at 45. |

I could't agree more. I have an old .177 that i've had around since I was about 10 years old and I can stick those little plastic thumbtacks in a target and shatter them from 30 feet over and over, uber accurate iron sights, for close range anyway. I'm having trouble getting used to the 4-9x on my benjamin and the reddot on my Phantom, the tacks keep jumping out of the way
I guess having shot that old .177 about 2 million times when I was younger has imprinted an iron sight image in my head somehwhere. I find it satisfiing to nail ashot with iron, but i find the newer rifles come with sh!t sights. My benjamin came without sights and my phantoms rear sight was slanted and the front was twisted, so reddot was only option. |

I've shot quite a few birds with my air pistols with iron sights. That's a low powered ag with open sites hitting moving targets....and yet people think that is not hunting. |

It depends. I think one should learn shooting, starting with a Dioptre. |

| I learned to shoot like MANY others, with a Red Ryder. At one point if it was in range it could be considered shot. I agree that irons on most guns today are just a load of bull shirt, the manufacturers expect you to put optics on them so they get away with building crappy sights. That's why I think old lady Diana has good irons, just like the Sheridan- their manufacturers intended them to be shot with iron sights. Who is going to buy a gun that they can't aim? |

They are fine, what size is the gap in the notch?
I like irons on pistols, no need for glass in their effective range.
There was something good I had to say, but forgot it... |
