It's kinda embarrassing, but I got some time this afternoon to shoot a few groups with both the Beeman and my flea market Chinese springer. The Chinese gun has obviously been left cocked for extended periods as the spring is noticeably weak. The embarrassing part? The $5 flea market rifle is shooting groups off the bench with open sights that are as good or better than the Beeman will do with a 4X scope! Neither rifle is fond of pointed pellets, both performing best with wadcutters, and both with best groups of just under 1" at 30 yds. OK, anyone know where I can get a new spring for the Chinese rifle? And how can I smooth out the recoil on the Beman? It jumps all over my little bench every time I pull the trigger!

Don't shoot a from a bench. That's what's throwing you off, the spring recoil.

Or learn how to get a good hold so you don't get spring jump.

Try laying your hand on the rest, and cup the stock with your fingers so the gun can rock back and forth but not side to side.

Another experiment would be to shoot groups with the rest at different points on the stock. One spot will probably be better than the others.

I've been shooting from a bench position, and I see above Fritz says don't. So how do most shoot? Standing? I was shooting prone first, then on a bench, with a bipod. I've been shooting a .22 and a 7.62X39 rifle for quite a while so this is just how I went at the air rifle. Mark.

In shooting from a bench, I've been using a substantial pad of folded rags between 6-8" thick. Recoil is so multi-directional that it topples my cushion almost every shot. I'm going to try it again today with a firm hold and see what happens.

Go to a garage sale and get one of those soft-sided insulated lunch bags. Put a zip-lock plastic storage bag inside and fill it with sand, just short of plumb full. Duct tape the seal for insurance. You can punch a recess into the top with your hand, and you will have three different heights to work with.

It makes no difference what you shoot from, what matters the most is what you rest a Springer on, I use a rolled up towel but anything that lets the gun move and is soft will do, and don't forget a Springer has a double recoil.

I got those shooting sandbags from wallyworld. Was like $20 for two of them. They work great. Might as well get the proper kit to begin with instead of jacking around with towels and lunch boxes.

I see, thanks, guess I'll try something different from the bi-pod tomarrow.
