| hello guys...new member here who recently purchased a quest 500..was interested in upgrading to a 1000....i have read that the 1000 has a different spring and piston size but have not had that confirmed....it seems to me that from some of my reading in here, i have come to the right place for knowledge and info....i am willing to take this rifle apart myself and install parts and feel i could complete the task but i just need some guidance... |

Just so as everyone in Canada is aware (yes, legal proviso follows)- converting a Quest/Phantom 500 to a '1000' turns it into a "firearm" under Canadian law which requires the owner to have the appropriate licenses and registration- so no one should be getting themselves into trouble.
Anyways, the '500' upgrade to a '1000' depends on which caliber you are talking about and the age of the rifle.
In it's simplest set-up, a .22 caliber Phantom needs a replacement piston (and a replacement seal is always a good idea). A .177 needs the piston and a spring (the '500') .177 also got its spring chopped to keep it below the 495fps level).
Then, if you have a Quest 500 in .177 that is more than about 18 months old, the newer springs don't match the older guides, so you would also need the front spring guide and rear thrust washer to go with the new spring for everything to fit together.
Beyond that, a spring compressor is always a good idea... |

VW:
I would be one of the first to admit "hot-rodding" is fun. But not following the rules can result in paying a very heavy price and cast a shadow on the airgun community.
I personally can attest to some of the frustrations of tinkering, even within the rules. How many times have I asked myself: Why didn't I leave well enough alone? Countless. Such is the plight of an old born again, dyed-in-the-wool tinkerer.
Best regards,
Amigo |

thanx eric and amigo for your replies....i am fully aware of the "firearm" cutoff point as far as the fps goes and i am aware as well amigo that my end result may not be what i expect but putting all that aside i think i can get this thing done....i,m not into anybody or there community getting frowned upon from my actions so i may end this subject right here....its good to know guys like u two understand all this mod stuff...whether right or wrong...i just wanna tinker... |

Is the power decreass just the spring ...............
maybe smaller port or both ....
If it was just the port..wouldn't that be simple |

| There's a detailed write-up on this around here somewhere. The 'detuning' done on these is only spring and piston, no port size changes. |

| Use the "Search" button near the mid-top of the screen, type in "Phantom 500" and click the checkbox for "search for all terms" and then select only the "Rifles" topic area to search within. After reviewing all the stuff that pops up, post some specific questions if there's more you need... |
