I'm looking for a trainer pistol for aerial/instinctive target shooting and Daddy Joe has recommended the Crosman 1088 for my purposes. I'm leaning real hard in that direction but this Gamo V3 looks so perfect. I'm a 1911 shooter and this thing seems like its as close as I'm going to get.
Only problem is, it looks to me like you have to dump the CO2 cartridge in order to reload the magazine!
SURELY they didn't build a CO2 pistol that only gets 15 shots from a cartridge?
Surely? |

The BB clip slide’s out separately, and doesn’t affect the co2 cartridge.
If you want something similar to a 1911 why not try a Desert Eagle ?
If you want information on BB guns I would suggest you look on a BB site as we tend to concentrate on pellet guns, also you probably find more users of that type of gun.

All the info on this pistol says it fires round lead pellets and operates on CO2.
Seeing as this is the pistol forum on "Airgunhome.com" I foolishly assumed this would be the place to ask my question.
FWIW, I'm a very serious shooter looking for a very specific training tool, not a toy. I've been a competitive shooter and made my living as a shooting instructor and gunsmith for most of my adult life, I'm an NRA Distinquished Expert Pistol shooter looking for an inexpensive way to improve my shooting skills even further and I'm terribly sorry if my training requirements are too low rent for your tastes.
Thank you for setting me straight. |

No problem with your question but when it says round lead balls it basically is a bb gun, although the barrel is rifled it will never shoot lead balls as well as pellet gun, and if you want to practice pistol shooting cheaply you would be better getting something better, the gun Joe suggested would be a start, but I assume that if you shoot a 1911 colt, or am I wrong? Then a Desert Eagle would be the ideal gun for you to practice with.

Thanks for the link but I'm on a dialup connection, I can't view Youtube videos.
I'm confused about why you think a .177 Desert Eagle clone would be a better 1911 trainer than a .177 1911 clone?
Please understand I am working on devloping my instinctive shooting skills using aerial targets. The importance in this is that you do not use your sights for instinctive shooting. Everything is by practice and repetition. Sometimes, mind numbing repetition.
The size, shape, and angle of the grip, along with placement and type of trigger relative to that grip is crucial for being able to transition properly from your training tool to the "burner" version.
If you already know all this, please excuse my having preached to the choir, I just want to make sure we're on the same page with what we're talking about.
As far as the level of skill we're talking about, I was just out in my front yard having a cigar and when it was finished, I tossed the butt into the air and shot it with a Red Ryder BB gun. (yeah, I know, another damned BB gun! )
My goal now is to be able to do the same thing with a pistol. |

Eh, nevermind. I found a few reviews on the Gamo and I've really lost interest. This thing doesn't sound like it'll do what I need it to do.
Thanks for your patience. |

If you want to see a comparison of various CO2 pistols, all tested by one person, using a baseline testing method, see this link;
http://www.co2airguns.net/collection/index.htm
The stats like gun weight, trigger pull, etc are extremely helpful. |

I like the Crosman T4 for informal shooting. The trigger pull is a little on the heavy side but you get used to it. Shoots both pellets and BB's (via magnetic clips) but I've never used bb's in it. Hits hard and shoots surprisingly accurate for a short barrel. Open sights work well, but I like my laser sight on it!
