Today I sat down with the old girl and give her a barrel cleaning, so opening the break I noticed some play- a new thing. Deciding to take the plunge... take off the scope, stock, and get ready to pop the pins holding the end cap on thus releasing the spring.

Both pins came off and the end cap didn't budge, not good! I gave the block a tap with the end of a screw driver and it came out... here's the really bad part: she had a 5 (FIVE) piece spring! I was only expecting a 2 or 3 piece.

Time to order that JM kit on Monday.

So I put everything back together except the stock, which I took into the shop, stripped off the old (and slightly beat up) finish. Put on a nice coat of gloss polyurethane and hung her up to dry over night. Then once hung up I though that she needed more (even though the lighter stock looks nice), and thought of burning "In memory of Lady Jane" into the raised cheek rest. FYI Lady Jane is my (recently) deceased dog of about 13 years.

Vertical play, before the cocking arm engaged. Nothing side to side.

I do suppose she is in need, after... over 10,000 pellets.

Guess that's the trouble of any break barrel for ya. You can put shims between the breech and hinge if the play is horizontal. Vertical play is a bit harder to do I guess.

You could look at where the barrel is locked. I'm not sure how the part is called, but most breakbarrels have a pin to keep the barrel/breech vertically in place.
