Does anyone know anything about the hammerli quest? I'm looking for something just to shoot for fun, no hunting. I was thinking of the daisy 953. I don't need a lot of fps. Don't want something real hard to cock.
thanks

Go away! Leave now! Save yourself! You're already addicted!

Welcome to the addict's communinty.

If you don't mind spending a couple more dollars a shooting session you might want a co2 gun, especially since cocking effort might be a problem. I assume you mean the Crosman quest and not the Hammerli. Either way it shouldn't be too bad of a rifle to start your addiction.

If you really want some gun for your money, the Diana 34 is one of the best rifles for the money currently on the market.

I don't mind cocking too much, I used to have a multi pump and got tired of the constant pumping. I'm looking for more accuracy than power.I thought about 953 but thought the hammerli quest may have more quality.i read that the 953 had very little recoil. Would the hammerli have much since it is a springer? I have also thought about the winchester 800x,I can get one locally for $60

It wasn't indicated very well, but there is no "Hammerli Quest". There are some Hammerili-branded springers, but the only "Quest" is made by Crosman and it shares the same mechanics with a number of other Crosman, Remington and Benjamin-Sheridan products.

Any spring-powered gun is going to have some recoil, a pump-up gun has virtually none.

I personally am not familiar with the Winchester 800x, but it is a .177- as are the Crosman Quest 1000 or Phantom 1000 or Tac77 Elite (same mechanics in all all of these). Which is better? Based on serviceability and popularity, the Crosman products win there, but I can't speak for the accuracy of the Winchester.

I'd pick up the Winchester and see how it preforms.

How much do you plan to spend?

The Winchester is Turkish and the Quest is Chinese, but they handle a lot alike. Their not bad as budget rifles go they're about par for the course. that's where I started when I got back into air guns a few years ago. My son got the Quest 1000 (.177), I got the 800 (samr power plant as the 1000 0nly it's a .22) and my wife got me the Winchester a little later as a gift.

Here they are (the Quests and the Winchester) along with my Daisy 22SG. These were my starter rifles ahen I got "hooked" on air gunning a few years ago. Rolling Eyes Cool

But if you have to have an addiction, this one is a good one.

It would be best to know your maximum price range.

Put 1000 pellets through it then mount the scope. All guns have a break in period, and especially on springers. Maybe after then you could open her up and do a JM lube job.

I haven't heard too many complaints about the Hammerli 490 Express, but I'd still lean towards a Crosman for parts support...
